On the second theme... "OLD GOLD"

How would you interpret this theme? And what does it mean exactly? What is the difference between just gold and old gold? Does it perhaps mean searching for treasures or discovering buried gold...?

If you have any thoughts let me know so we can all brainstorm together maybe we can provide someone (including myself) with a good idea :D

can be aged treasure or maybe uh old games, music or something like that?

Old games seems interesting, I am thinking about refreshing one of the original GB games or maybe have a twist on it smt like that...

Keep in mind remakes and demakes are against the rules!

I understand, that is why I said "refresh" or add a twist, so maybe combining different mechanics from game and incorporate it into another game, making a mashup from different OG GB games... smt like that ig.

I think I’m going to interpret it as precious older things? It’s kinda difficult not to think about it too literally

I was wondering - I am not an english native speaker, is there any saying or phrase with meaning attached to this? My search only turned up a color definition, which is nonsensical as theme to me.

“Old Gold” would mean something aged, or long forgotten, or ancient, anything like that. The “gold” could be literal gold, or something cherished or loved, or anything particularly or personally valuable. There isn’t really an English phrase about it that I’m aware of. (I’m American for reference.)

Thanks, I think the organizers let the non-native english speakers down here, with no clarification or examples on how old gold could be interpreted.

Google searches, web dictionaries even AI overviews only really refer to the color.

"Old but gold" is something people say when something is old, but they see it as still good despite its age

Yeah I'm thinking hidden treasures, ancient relics, etc. "Gold" doesn't have to be literal gold as in the precious metal, or currency.

From what I've seen, these are very open to interpretation. I think that It could be taken in as literal of a sense as you wanted: your game could be about an old gold miner, a character trying to recover something important that was lost to them,  or even the "old (but) gold" saying, as long as your game sticks to its theme it should be fine. If the theme was very specific in its interpretation, such as "your game needs to somehow incorporate the concepts of age and wealth", it would have been written that way.
