I enjoy the play with genre here. As others have pointed out, more proceduralization of the central narrative could help clarify and heighten the stakes. The PCs could contest each other in their struggle to understand the cosmic balance of Law and Chaos. Perhaps a dreamlike PVP meta-duel could be a fun way to both encourage combat of a sort but resolve the situation with a Moorcockian flair. The PCs realize, whatever their philosophies, that they aren't the protagonists in this dimensions and just need to survive/get away. That feels quite Old of School. Points for the runic rifle.
Thank you!
Love the characters & the twists in how Law & Chaos are both personified in western tropes. Would love to see an expanded version of this, perhaps with a map or more art, but there’s definitely enough here already to serve as a solid base to build off it. Good work!
Thank you so much.
brilliant concept and work on the prompt. A little out of pace, too wordy where i would need it dry and lacking some meat where i would like to bite. It's not easy to keep it all in few pages, I reckon. In the end, I like it very much, but more for what it suggests and promises than for what it delivers.
Thank you! Definitely planning on expanding the text.
The concept of an eerie, out-of-time Western town serving as the battleground for an interplanar duel is super evocative, gave me strong Preacher vibes. For my personal taste, I would have liked a few more concrete mechanics tied to the Order/Chaos dynamic or the duel itself, but experienced GMs can definitely run with the narrative foundation already present.
Thank you. Yeah, definitely an "advanced" version of the scenario will have more options, suggestions and maybe a custom mechanics.
That was a hard theme and what an interesting setting you made of it! It seems pretty hard to include in a campaign, and leave a lot to the GM's imagination, but the moral conundrum it will pose the players will no doubt be worth. Might also lead to some "pvp" with different players wanting to influence chaos/law, but without direct confrontation, which are never really desirable. Love it!
Thanks. Pvp is an option i didn't think about in the first place. Maybe in a future version I can say that each PC comes from a different setting (e.g. a fantasy adventurer, a cyberpunk samurai, and so on). Will work on it!
Just to precise: I didn't mean it as a bad thing for the "PvP" part. Direct confrontation PvP is often bad/hard to run if it's not the direct goal of the adventure; But here it would be more moral differences, since the actions of players towards chaos or order have a much more important impact there than in other more mundane adventure. That might lead to indirect opposition but without animosity, especially since the two champions (and other characters) both seem pretty decent people and are not really at odds with each other outside of their cosmological role. That is a very good scenario in my opinion to remind players that order vs chaos is NOT the same line of moral dilemma than Good vs Evil, and that it requires a much more nuanced take with more balanced results in the end.
Nothing like what I expected from the title, a nice mess for the PCs to land in. Love the idea of a Wild West planar shift, with a strong Moorcockian theme. It doesn’t feel easy to include in an ongoing game, but I feel like it will be worth it.
Thanks. Out of curiosity, what were you expecting from the title?
Some Conanesque swordfight, mighty barbarians defending their wounded pride with steel against magic, or something similar.
Cool idea! I'm always a sucker for wild west stuff and there's nothing better than a duel at dusk. I love the inclusion of the telescope which shows people's true shape/reality. Would be very fun to run at a table I think.
Thank you so much!
I like the idea of the duel and having it be between chaos and law, very cool idea and on theme. I also like the added touch of including a character dialogue line in each location, helps set the vibe. Nice module and use of the title! 🤠
Thank you. The title immediately gave me western vibes.
I think I really like this. It has a kind of cozy village feeling where nothing happens and the underlying secret isn’t a sinister cult or the devil possessing the townsfolk, but something really unavoidable earthshattering. Hope to give it a go!
Thank you!
Ooh, so the players are put in the middle of a literal duel between Moorcockian alignments!
Yes, this was the intent. I was reading Corum when the jam started. :)
I can immediately see the Appendix N influence in this adventure! The whole thing is very simple and sweet, easy for the GM to run and for the players to participate. I do think it's too linear, and I would've love seeing this in a double spread collum. But, I appreciate the exploration of the themes! Good work!
Thank you. I'd like to expand it in the future, in structure as long as in a fancier layout.
