This is extremely relevant to me, my indev games are evidence. From my experience, not outdated but very niche.
Oh, they are outdated. But old-fashioned might be a better word. There is nieches for old stuff. Even vinyl records have their audience.
And modern text-based games usually have clickable buttons and illustrations, instead text interface where you have to type your commands.
