Ohhh I'm VERY excited for the full release of this one!
Everything about the presentation of this game is SO GOOD. The inclusion of illustrations during story moments are a really fun way to add style. I also love the parallax and lighting. You don't see many 2d games made in unreal, which I think is kind of a shame - It feels like you used the lighting features of the engine in a really neat way to compliment this art style!
I had a couple of small issues with the map when I played - I realized after finishing that I was playing a slightly older version of the game, and reading the other comments here I *THINK* the issue I was having with the map was fixed. It was the ol' opening the map with LB after opening it in pause menu softlock. Classic! I also had a small issue towards the end of my playthrough where whenever i opened the map, the basement map would always appear over whatever map was displayed.
I feel like I should hop back in to try out the modern controls, but i REALLY liked the tank controls once I got used to them - I feel like they make the game properly tense, and feel like a classic survival horror game. Speaking of classic survival horror, I love to see a limited saves mechanic! I've never seen it done in this specific way, with each save point having a limited amount of saves, rather than consumable items that save the game. I'll have to see what it feels like in a full game, but with the demo, it was exciting to think of the limited save feature in a different way.
Anyway, i'm REAL excited to play this one when it launches. GREAT stuff! I played the demo here on stream around 26:42
Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! We absolutely loved watching your gameplay, and we’re really happy you enjoyed the presentation, lighting, parallax, and especially the tank controls! Your right to say it helps a lot to create that tension that old survival horror have and that's why we wanted them in. Modern controls are really going to be in the more dynamic way so it will break a bit of tension but add a lot of fun to the game which is also what you want when playing a game :). Plus its replay-ability and you betcha that when we get the achievement working that there will be one for finishing the game in modern all the way and one for tank controls all the way hahaha (devil ears)
The lighting was definitely a challenge to get working with our 2D setup in Unreal, so it means a lot to hear that you noticed and enjoyed it!
You were playing an older version (1.7), so the map issues you encountered have already been fixed in 1.8, with a few more fixes coming in Demo 1.9 next Friday, October 9th.
We also loved hearing your thoughts on the limited save system! It’s something we really wanted to approach differently from the usual survival horror formula, so we’re glad it caught your attention.
Thanks again for playing, sharing your thoughts, and getting excited for the full game! We can’t wait for you to see what’s next!
Overall, I really enjoyed Horror Scenarios! The top-down aspect was a unique touch that made the game feel like a fresh take on the classic survival horror games! I love that it will eventually have two different stories (at least I presume that's the plan from the selector page :D), and that you included difficulty modes and survival styles. Makes it feel way more accessible.
In terms of things that were hiccups for me, the text on the opening movie moved a bit too fast - would be better if you could just manually decide when to advance so it works for both slower and faster readers (or streamers trying to also keep up with chat LOL). On the flip side, once in the game, the text was a bit slow, though after a few I figured out I could hit E to make it go faster. Hopefully aiming to have an option for that down the line to change that?
I really found the controls hard to use. Keyboard + mouse just ended up being too many buttons to keep track of that were not always intuitive, and then having to switch to the mouse to attack just added to the complexity. Controller worked better, except for me; the 180 turn only worked when using the D-pad. If I used the L-stick, it just wouldn't trigger.
I also really think it would be helpful if the map indicated locked doors once you interact with them. I got increasingly frustrated by how many locked doors there were at the start, and ended up stuck trying to find either a key or something sharp. The mansion is big enough that it was easy for me to forget which doors were locked and which weren't, so I ended up trying them all again and again.
The only bug, other than the 180 turn on L-stick, that I encounter was when I was on the menu and hit the LB to see what it did, the game locked up and I had to CTRL+ALT+DEL to get out.
All that said, I look forward to it's release in early access and will be watching for it <3

Hey Collectonian,
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! We actually watched your gameplay, and it was great seeing you experience the Redwood Estate. We’re really happy you enjoyed the concept and direction we’re taking!
We completely agree about the opening movie text and will look into making it easier to read. We’ll also look into adding an option to speed up in-game dialogue.
We’re currently working on modern controls to make movement more flexible and intuitive, especially with mouse + keyboard. We’ll also investigate the 180° turn issue with the left stick.
Your feedback about the map is great too! We have something planned for Early Access with collectible maps that will better identify rooms and doors, making them more useful to the player.
We also noticed the backtracking you experienced 😅 We’ll look at making that staircase more obvious.
The LB/menu issue was identified, fixed and should be included in tomorrow’s patch!
Thanks again for playing and taking the time to share all this. Feedback like yours really helps us polish the Redwood Estate while staying true to our vision.
