Yes, you need to beat Lanassa.

I'll see if I can find a way to do it without having to beat her.

Maybe buffing Elucia's damage with The treasures that create a shield based on damage dealt then increasing her damage by her shield amount? Maybe stacking Continuous Damage from Ran Crits?

I'm not sure if there is only a single solution or not.

I was able to do it with just 2 hero slashes my first time. However an idea to make it easier is to build up Rosa's gauge first since from my understanding the boss doesn't attack. That would allow you do multiple speed boosts or refill everyone's mana. May also be a good idea to see if you can reduce his bar with rends, or other skills that reduce it.
