Hello,

I read the rules and the FAQ and I think this is allowed, but wanted to make sure.

Can I make a decoration that immitates the game boy faceplate, making the window bigger than the specified resolution, but having the actual gameplay run in a simulated screen within the 160x144px resolution and 4 color pallete?

The decoration would have more than 160x144px and more than  4 colors, also it might show wich buttons you press with an animation.

Borders are allowed (some engines don't have a choice), as long as they can't be interacted with and are static.

So I can have the faceplate, but can't animate the buttons?

You can animate the frame for the purposes of looking like a normal Gameboy being interacted with.

The thing people can't do with frames is essentially use it as extra UI/game feedback or any other system that engages with the specific gameplay in some way
