How does your game meet GBJam's theme
A monk searches for gold to build a golden Buddha statue. Since this is an ancient tale, it represents "OLD GOLD."

I love the progression in this game, the color palette you chose is so comfy and perfect, and I just love the design in general. great entry!

Very interesting concept and cozy game, I got stuck finding the golden nugget  but it was still fun nontheless. Really good job love  the npcs and the concept.

I played this game because my favorite bar is burp castle. This was a treat to play. I appreciated how you emphasized the slow years-long process of building the shrine. I felt like the game bringing me back to the temple and making me retrace my steps echoed this in a clever and simple way.

It took me 64 years to finish this game haha
It's got a lot of charm, I really like the art and vibe and the map was well designed, really enjoyed it!

I have been following your progress on Twitter and was really excited to try out your game.

This entry has the most Gameboy soul out of all the games in the jam I've played so far. Not just with the pixel art, but the movement, the level design, the obstacles that block you from entering areas of interest, and even the tiny details like the sign posts that give out clues about the game.

I felt like a 9-year old playing Pokemon again for the first time, and I think that's what the GBJAM is about.

I would give Gameboy Soul a 6/5 if I could!

I really enjoyed watching your process, especially how you used pen and paper to plan out your levels. I should try that some time!

Thank you for making this beautiful game, Hidebu!

This was really fun little puzzle game, probably a bit too backtracky but honestly it was very nice either way. I like the story and it was very well put together for a solo project and felt like a real gb game, lag included!.

FINALLY, a game that looks, feels and plays like a game boy, No strange effects, no out of place text, good art, appreciation for console limitations.  You NAILED it!

Really lovely game. Played to the end (~20 minutes, I think?) and was thoroughly delighted the whole way through by all the quirky characters. It felt very meditative going around this small village, talking to people, and occasionally picking up a new tool to be able to go talk to more people. And then, of course, spending almost half a decade crafting a fraction of a statute. Great pixel art and music, too. Thank you for creating and sharing this!

Got 4 dig spots but never found the other tool to progress. Neat idea, though!

Loved the game and finished it. Really charming and short

I find funny though how every time you collect a gold ingot you teleport back and work on a section of the statue for 4 years.
