Once I got un-stuck from the painting, I had a lot of fun! The characters had unique voices, the art is fantastic and really give a specific vibe!  I liked how you varied the music for scenes, but the, like, overall music that plays during the investigation didn't quite feel like it matched the rest of the vibe of the game. (It felt too... pondering, I guess? I dunno, more dungeon crawl and less investigation-y)

I enjoyed poking around for clues, and I'm excited to see the full game! Definitely one that I wanna flash on a cart to play on my gameboy when it's all done =D

Thanks so much for having another go at it, even with the bugs!

Yeah it didn’t have any music at all literally 15 minutes before I submitted so I just scrambled something together as I thought some music would be better than none. (I don’t know how to make music but will spend a bit more time on making something that fits the game feel better) .

Would be really cool to know at least one other person played on original hardware!

You put a lot of work into the graphics and it shows! I would have liked to play the full game, but you did a great job with this.

Thank you!

An entertaining point-and-click mystery. Kinda sucks the whole story isn't there, but I didn't get the story into my jam game either. Graphically, the portraits feel like they shouldn't run on the GB due to 8x8 VRAM tile limitations, but they do. Great use of dithering to create halftones and shading.

The palette really gives the noir detective vibe, though I am a little surprised it held the palette colors on my GBA, unless the ROM was GB/GBC interchangeable.

I imagine the full game would have a little more in the top-down room with the suspects, as that was a tad empty and expansive. Though enough of the game is there to get a feel for the style of investigating the game wants.

Thank you for playing!

Yes the game is very much unfinished, the entire main room and all the character sprites still being just placeholders. Will be adding a lot more characters to chat to, and fill the room out.

Thanks for noticing the graphics in consideration for the tile limits, I probably spent too much time trying to optimize them! And yes this is GB/GBC with the palette applied globally. It was important for me that it still ran on the original Gameboy, but I wanted it to be black and white from conception.

My game ended up in GBC-only mode precisely because we didn't optimize (our title screen, for one), so good on you for going the extra mile to make it happen.
