It was the plan when I initially started working on the game, but somewhere along the way in early development I decided to make him a unique character that can't be changed.

It is a neat idea on surface, but I quickly realized how much work it would be. Like, I'd have to make a gazillion variations of each panel for the comics for example.

And for the player, I wanted him to be more "invisible" in a way. He still needs to appear on screen sometimes so when he is shown, he is portrayed in a very basic way and with a medium ish skin color so hopefully as many people can self insert themselves into the game.

At least that's how I imagined it would be the best for the experience I wanted to make. Hope this was helpful. <3

Yes, it would take a lot of work...

But I don't mind, don't think about it, it's beautiful in itself, and the NPCs look gorgeous too, it's just a matter of interest)))

I'm not a game developer, just a regular application developer, but wouldn't an overlay system that works like OOP fix the variation issues? I suppose that instead of drawing each scene individually, you could create body parts individually and just customize those for each unique scene. The colors would just get mapped to each part of the body.

I guess the problem is just as you said, permutations. Since it is 2D art, as opposed to 3D modelling. Also, I wonder if the Live2D (not exactly using that software) strategy would work. Create a sort of 3D model first, then let the system create the 2D variations as assets.

Don't worry about this, it's just my brain trying to think about how to help with software engineering side of games. Great game though! 🥰
