Wasn't sold on the mechanic till I got the second balloon and started to understand you could pull them mid-air. A really, really good platformer mechanic. Could work very well in a lot of the classic platformer games. Also the kind that makes you wonder if there aren't some places you could cheat the level through precise movements. Though the theme interpretation isn't the most obvious nor really present in the gameplay mechanics (it's funny cause the old part is more present than the gold one, to the contrary of most games), it makes up for a clean emotional story ;).
