  • Graphics : Fine
    • Some of the cake textures are...weird? Either too detailed or too small in res so it's easy to spot the tiling.
  • GUI : Fine
  • Performance : Gets noticeably worse if you make somewhat intricate cakes, While I didn't really make a particularly serious or intricate cake, I feel like it's inevitable that some folk will decorate almost every single bit of the cakes
  • Music / Sfx :
    • Music : Could use a bigger variety, what's here kinda makes me think of Kerbal & Space [It's fine]
    • SFX :
  • Gameplay : It's a cake decorating game.
  • Notes :
    • The colour selection is a bit..off, I'm not sure how to explain it but a lot of the colors I could make the cake didn't look particularly great. [Matte / Glossy issue?]
    • Would be nice to have a bit more room for a wider cake [Sombrero]
    • Would be nice to have more shapes for the cake bits , as it is atm it's just cylinders, maybe we want a pyramid theme or something else
    • Really would like a freeplace mode
      • E.G. Putting cherries at the end of Toothpicks
    • Sparklers and toothpicks / skewers would be nice as an addition or other bits to "hold" up the higher tiers of the cake
    • Maybe some streamers or other little decorative bits of paper to hang / drape?
    • Spacing /Inset feels like it needs a touch up , it's a bit difficult to do exactly what I want
    • Really could do with the ability to 'paint' certain spots of the cake, maybe you have a "walled" off area of the cake and it'd make sense for there to be a different color inside [E.G. A House or Lawn]
  • Final Thoughts : So, this isn't exactly my genre of game but I did have fun with it, albeit probably in an unintentional and 'wrong' way. I do think that despite my fooling around that I did actually find some problems and come up with some decent feedback though.

Hello Long Lost Studios,

This was a really fun game that I'm probably going to have my daughter try!

So first off, let's start with the music and audio since that's my primary field. Honestly, the game didn't really need much music, and what little it did have was cozy and fitting for the game. I wouldn't mind a bit of something to hum to but honestly, for this kind of game, people will probably put on something they personally like while playing it anyway. SFX were just right for where it was, nothing too stand out and annoying, while present enough to not feel empty. I figure as you add more features, you will be adding more music and SFX, but as discussed, there is a whole priority list of features that should probably come first.

I'm not going to talk so much about features that I'd like to see happen, as I know there is quite a list, and focus on providing you some quick notes on things we've discussed during the stream for your reference.

  • I think intuitively I should have tried to click on things like the cake or the decorations for additional options but as I didn't, I feel you could stupid-proof the game by adding a little pop-up note that happens after the first thing is placed. A simple, (click for color, size, and more options)
  • We discussed how the color palette you have set up is already workable for people who are colorblind like myself. If anything, we'd rely on more shapes and such, so once you have more decorations and options in the game, then we'd be all set.
  • My biggest suggestion for your priority list is to set a primary target audience, especially who you would know are more likely to grab this game. I was saying this would be a great for partnering with bakeries and baking brands to recreate/promote their products while giving users the ability to communicate their cake ideas whether baker, client, or personal.

I didn't look at anyone else's cake when I played this, and I'm glad I didn't cause some of the silly and fun creations on here would have had me thinking too much! But here are my cakes!

Thanks for the fun game!

Hi,

I'm LatinaStrike (a streamer) I’m giving this feedback as a regular player with no development experience. So these are just my thoughts as I was playing the game.

I enjoyed the game. To be very honest I am not into baking or cake decoration; however, I enjoyed my time decorating the cake. Even made me question if I should get into it LOL. It has a very relaxing and  cozy feel to it. A perfect game if you just want to get your mind off things and have fun.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game and think it has a lot of potential. My main suggestions would be to add more decoration options and things to customize the cakes with. Also having more toppings, decorations, and unlockable items as you make more cakes would be a really fun idea.

Another suggestion is to have more options for backgrounds when taking the pictures would be really fun or even allowing you to upload your own image.

Again overall, I enjoyed it. Keep it up. Also I want to apologize because I was supposed to stream your game or some other ones. Unfortunately,  I wasn’t able to do it because I’ve been having some issues with my audio while streaming.  so I just played the games on my own time.

Here I will share a picture of my creation.

Thank you for playing and for the great feedback!

I had never thought about uploading your own background image, that's a great idea =)

Cute cake! Glad you enjoyed trying out decorating =)

Overall Impression
This is a pretty solid vertical slice of a sandbox game! It reminded me a lot of the old cooking flash games I grew up with, so it definitely scratched that nostalgia itch.

There’s also a certain whimsy that suddenly kicked in once I realized this was a sandbox and that the possibilities were basically endless. I made a lil guy.

Suggestions & Ideas

-More photo options: Filters, stamps, frames, etc. could make the photography aspect more fun, similar to FFXIV or Cooking Mama.

-Snapping: A snapping/alignment option could help with more intricate or symmetrical cake designs.

-Icing physics: Some gravity/flow to icing could be fun, similar to the sauce application in Papa's Pizzeria.

-More decorations: The current selection is limited, but I think there’s enough for a demo to show off the concept. (gotta keep your audience curious! hehe)

Hahaha Nice cake xD

thanks hehe

This is exactly the kind of game that can pull Squab in and have her playing for hours. Low stress, creative freedom, cozy and relaxing. It has a deceptive amount of potential for creation. You think it's just decorating cakes, and it absolutely can be. But you can make sooooooo much more than cakes that look like cakes.

We would like to see more music options but the music that's in there now is at least the right amount of unconscious background that it never really gets old. It just doesn't quite fit.

The interface kind of relies on the player figuring out how to use it, which can lead to not knowing how to do things or that things can even be done unless they're stumbled on accidentally. So, adding in some visual cues or instructions could go a long way.

Once you know how to use the controls, though, there's so much to do and we really liked the feel. Everything moved and was manipulated really smoothly, which is especially important for a game entirely built on placing things where the player wants them.

Also, the ability to bulk edit items that have already been placed would be nice. You said that's already planned, so that's good.

The finished product looked really nice and luckily the autosave works really well. We had a lot of fun with this and see so much potential as you keep adding to it. Keep it up!

Thanks again for playing! Loved watching Squab explore the game and her cakes were so creative!

THE CAKE IS A LIE, DAMMIT! Oh wait, that's Portal. Now I wonder if one *could* make the Portal cake in your game. 🤔🤔
Jokes aside, this game has a ton of potential for real world applications. I could see a person making a cake in this, then sending a screenshot to an IRL baker/cake designer to have it become reality. Well, as long as real world physics are applied, as the cake I made would topple over quite easily, or become a fire hazard if I added candles all around it, as I was experimenting with. 🤣🤣
Controls are fairly intuitive. Adding info when hovering over certain shapes could help when trying to determine the exact decorations you want.
Behold, my creation:

This is such an intuitive tool! As an app, I feel like it has all of the features it needs to have, and it's really fun to play around with. Everything feels good to control, and it's super easy to just hop in and do what you need to do.

If I had to request some extra features, I'd love to be able to put text on a cake, or maybe have some kind of free-draw tool to do more involved frosting designs.

This might be a bit more niche, but I'd also love to be able to mass select and copy multiple objects at once. I kind of went with a more avant garde design for my cake that involved a slightly complicated anime eye made out of a bunch of sprinkles - If there was some kind of feature to copy all of those shapes at once, that would have helped in my VERY SPECIFIC scenario. Or maybe an ability to save a group of items as its own custom object or stamp that you could easily repeat. Truthfully, I imagine that would be a feature that not too many people would get a whole lot of use out of, but it could definitely encourage more intense cake designs.

As this is, though, I really don't have any issues with this game - the presentation is remarkably well done, and everything that's already included feels really good and well refined. You've created a great set of tools that are really fun to use! Great job!

I present to you my cake of anime Abraham Lincoln.

I made the cake on stream, you can check it out here around 1:24:00 :P

that's one AMAZING CAKE Cinnature

OMG I have been showing Anime Abraham Lincoln to everyone I know!!! Incredible work!! I didn't even know something like this was possible, hahaha. We SO enjoyed watching your stream!! We were laughing so much. And it was awesome watching you explore all the tools and settings and thinking up creative ways to do things. Thank you soooo much <3

Mass select and stamp features are some of the most common requests so far, so not niche at all and we will definitely be adding them! Text and free draw are also on the list, but further down the road.

Thanks for playing and creating a true masterpiece!

Hahaha another great cake xD

fun game! intuitive gui, only wished for alt text display to communicate design options a bit faster.  And coloring option to come up earlier after tool selection not just after it's placed. And that we can take multiple screenshots per cake.

Hello and welcome to Feedback Quest 9! My name is Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts for this lovely event! I'm also one of the streamers, so both the game and this feedback are being done live! If you want to see the see the VOD, let me know and I'll link you to it when it's uploaded to YouTube! Though maybe you might not wanna watch it because oh my god, I don't know how to describe what happened.

Anyway, I love this game. This is such a fun little tool to have just to learn about how to decorate cakes. It took me a bit to realize that there were more tools than I thought, but once I learned of all the things I could do it began getting really fun! A lot of my feedback is going to be about how to give players more control over certain aspects to allow them to get really... accurate about what they make.

First and foremost, one thing I think would be useful is an alignment tool so that people can place things in precise locations. This came up when I was trying to put a candle in the direct middle of the cake, yet whenever I turned the cake to see from a different side it would always be off.

Next, I think it would be a good idea for players to be able to save colours that they want to often use in a design. The reason behind this will make more sense later on. I also think it would be nice if, when choosing colours, players could enter numbers to represent different things. I'm thinking RGB values or HSV values, or even a hexcode! This could even be a nice alternative to saving a colour as a player can then just keep a record of whatever values they put in.

Similarly, I think the ability to enter numbers for various other effects (like the size of things, the inset and the spacing) would be nice. That way, it's easier to get precisely what you want out of the design. In a similar vein, I'd also love the ability to create a duplicate decoration that I can place elsewhere. That way, I can maintain identical spacing and size when doing designs around the "wall" of a tier.

Last in terms of things I'd like to (seriously) see added, the ability to move the camera in other ways when taking a screenshot. When I was trying to take my screenshot, I wanted to get a more dynamic angle but couldn't. The game only lets you move the camera up and down as well as to zoom in, yet both of these are always based on the centre point of the cake, meaning if you're trying to get a bigger focus on, say, the top of the cake, you can't.

Next, I want to cover a few things that feel like they're either bugs or they just don't behave well. In this regard, I have two main things: first is that the game keeps resaving custom colours that are already saved in the recent colour bar, which means older colours can get pushed out quickly and the player can lose a colour they may have otherwise wanted to reuse later. Second is that if you set the piped ruffle cream spacing to be longer, it doesn't keep it as a consistent singular stream of cream but instead just spaces the pieces out. I feel like what it should affect is the spacing between the vertical parts of the ruffle instead, thus making them tighter or wider.

I also noticed there are some performance issues despite how little there seems to be in terms of graphical demand. The performance issues also spike when doing colour changes. I noticed this via my stream preview, which would tank massively in framerate when I was doing colour. It didn't affect the stream itself, but I can always tell via my stream preview when a game has a performance problem.

And the very last thing I want to ask is... can you add a candy corn decoration? I'm not going to explain why. You'll just have to be morbid enough to watch the VOD (including the game from before I played yours. Nothing that happens will make sense otherwise).

That's all from me! I hope this helps you out!
