I enjoyed this today! Saw the interest poll and then was delighted to see there's a demo. This comment turned out very long, hopefully some of it is helpful!
where I got confused: many places. very possibly a skill issue / familiarity with the genre issue. Things I have tried and failed to figure out how to do (having played a little over an hour I think):
- clean floors. I crouch with the brush and try to use it but nothin. maybe these floors are too clean? or I am being too impatient with my scrubbing?
- fire flintlock. a resident (?) comes and turns out my light every minute or so, going between my room and a neighbouring room with a ceiling light. I am guessing the flintlock is maybe just always jammed at this stage but maybe there's a secret flintlock maintenance minigame I'm missing
- do anything with the toolbox (am I supposed to be able to do anything with all these pipes, or with the lamps I can reach?)
- transfer soil to a half-empty sack (it says 'place receiving container on floor' or similar, but then when I do that it doesn't appear as an option to pour into)
- I would have been confused about the impact of food had I not read the comments here
what I wanted to bring home: the little frame with a dog picture made me laugh and I now have it set up next to my growing crates. My impulse is to bring back whatever I find to hoard it (even though strategically I should probably stay more mobile so I can explore more easily + move if I find a better placed tap). I like that you can put stuff on top of the barrels. I was wistful about a nearby sofa but it's probably smarter to have a further-away backup sleeping spot anyway.
did I manage to grow something to eat: not yet but I'm getting there! I got (I assume) very lucky with lots of soil bags + a previous camp near my starting spot, so I have 3 crates growing with little two-leaf sprouts. when my batteries run out I am screwed.
here are some of my other favourite bits so far.
- many nice toy-like ways to interact with the environment in this game. I really like the spray cans + the little item action minigames, like the tin-opening one, very pleasantly kinetic
- being in an unnerving dark space and turning your torch on to see bland office carpeting
- the notebook updates (like 'my jaw is cramping')
- I enjoy the sound cues
- I am guessing it may not be intended to be this way forever but I do like that the blob doesn't hurt me (directly). The tension and challenge of exploring + growing in a dark and guiderail-less space while conserving resources is fun for me, but if I got hunted I think this would stop me enjoying the building and growing bits. Very fair if this is just not designed for me though.
I'm definitely going to come back and play more :] thanks for making it!
