Good game! I enjoyed playing, and the music clearly communicates the narrative. It is challenging and fun in its own unique way, and I like the fact that it forces one to make quick decisions instantaneously. I was totally immersed while playing. Nice work.
the combo of the timer and the music made this game feel pretty intense. I liked the progression, especially the tools that built on already existing elements. being able to easily look up what all the bonus effects are (after the initial unlock) would be useful. definitely an addicting game.
Thanks, and happy to hear you liked it (especially the music which was rushed at the end of jam then slowed down to make the song longer). For the bonuses, i would have also have liked to have a screen with their effects but did not have the time to implement it beside the initially explanation.
Meets the theme very well, has the soul and quirkiness of a GB game.
thanks :)
Surprisingly addictive game once you get the hang of it. Item and obstacle variety was nice as well. I would say my main criticism is that progression is a bit slow unless I missed something (very little gold per day), and I also think like Ninive said being able to spawn multiple items along the same row would have helped.
Thanks. The main way to gain more gold in later rounds is to upgrade cart speed and the chance for gold to spawn after one is collected (kart bonus upgrade). You then hold the turbo button and spam carts and hope the refresh is lucky. I did think about making a gold upgrade where each pick up is worth more, but I worried about balancing that. For multiple spawns, it def would have been something that is probably more fun, but i just didnt think of it when i initially started program.
Getting more and more items as you progress through the day is great. I loved the different options and spamming tools up and down the caves. Also, the soundtrack is great, i was perfectly in the "mining" mood.
I did find myself spamming the same 2 tools (cart and pickaxe) and rarely anything else though.
I also found it a bit frustrating that you could not send more than one tool after the other (cart immediately after pickaxe for example). However, I realize that you'd have to program a sort of cooldown or the cave would be cleared extremely fast...
In any case, I loved it! Very nice submission :)
Thanks, and happy to hear you like the song ( it was the last thing I did for the jam at 1 am in the morning, but it wasn't long enough, so i just slowed it down by x5). The cart and pickaxe were by design supposed to be the best/ most used tool, and i kind of new the others were not going to be as good. I do kind of wish i had a bit more time to balance them, cause some of the tools were almost completely useless (i.e. lantern was super situational). Not being able to send multiple tools was also more of a programming issues than a balance one, the array i had set up could only handle one tool on each line at a time.
First and foremost, is the title a Steely Dan reference? I really enjoyed this even though I sucked at it. Eventually got into a bit of a groove switching my tools and zooming up and down trying to keep each row occupied. Obviously this would have been out of scope for a jam, and sort of goes against the design element of things ramping up more and more, but I was wishing I could buy something that could be placed and auto-shoot certain projectiles on a row, or get the ability to chain shots, so like shoot the pickaxe and that automatically shoots a cart right behind it.
lol it actually is a song references, just to "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon instead of "Your Gold Teeth". Autoshoot would have been cool and I did think about an upgraded where you would put a miner on a row and he would send out tools for you (albeit not as well as if you were choosing them yourself). The chain shots would have required a complete rework of the code, cause currently each row is assigned a tool when you send it out, and that tool id only can fill one index. I could have built a queue array that feeds into the active array, but seemed like a whole lot of work.
This is a neat game. I like how hectic it gets the longer you play. Good job!
thanks
