The Biggest Challenge
The core idea — a sun and a moon in opposite skies bound to ONE shared horizontal position — sounds simple but is brutal to tune: one control has to serve two lives at once, so difficulty can spike unfairly. The breakthrough was building the daily challenge on an index-driven seeded spawn stream (not wall-clock), so every player gets a byte-identical, fair sequence regardless of framerate, and layering a first-input grace window plus a no-hazard opening so the coexistence tension reads as fun rather than punishing in the first ten seconds.
AI Tools Used
An LLM coding assistant (design, hand-written HTML5 canvas + WebAudio code, playtest analysis).
Areas Where AI Was Used
Code (all original game logic, physics, canvas rendering, WebAudio synth), game design, and iterative playtesting/balance. No ripped or third-party assets — visuals and audio are generated procedurally in code.

Comments
1. Overall Enjoyment & Value: (Competent)
SOLUNA is a functional, neat browser-based HTML5 experience following two interconnected celestial beings. It plays smoothly and fulfills its core loop, but stays well within safe arcade boundaries without a massive hook.
2. AI Direction & Mastery: (Standard Usage)
The integration feels like off-the-shelf tooling. While assets and concepts align with the sun-and-moon duality theme, the implementation lacks the deeply curated, custom-architected wizardry seen in advanced pipelines, landing closer to generic prompt generation.
3. Production Velocity & Scope: (Balanced Scope)
The generative tools clearly assisted in quickly structuring this browser prototype for the jam, resulting in a complete and properly scoped entry that doesn't overextend itself or feel entirely empty.
4. Innovation & Experimentation: (Conventional)
The dual-movement concept (managing both skies and light/dark mechanics) is neat, but the overall technical and mechanical architecture relies on standard jam tropes rather than breaking ground.
Pipeline & Technical Assessment:
* Architecture: Utilizes standard web asset deployment without heavy evidence of custom local RAG grounding or strict offline API orchestration.
* Narrative & QA: Focuses on minimalist atmospheric gameplay rather than state-aware LLM branching dialogues or automated simulation bot testing.
I wonder why. The rules are incredibly clear—there’s no room for confusion—but the moment I start playing, my brain just goes haywire. In a good way. I felt that the fact that the sun and moon can’t both move up or down at the same time makes this game very challenging.
It’s frustrating, but after playing for a while, it seems this is about as far as I can go. At first, I didn’t realize there was information hidden behind the “Your Soluna” button in the upper-right corner of the title screen. I eventually figured it out, and while I can’t think of a better way to put it, I’ll mention it just in case.
It was fun. 🙂
