This is a cute one! I wasn't sure how well a platformer without jumping was going to work but it ended up with more than enough puzzles and mechanics to entertain for its runtime. Visually, I love the goblin sprites (especially the player with his comically oversized sack of treasure), but the environment had some misplaced tiles (scratch that - those were secrets, well played) as well as lacking a bit of variety - outside of "miscellaneous cave space" neither the tileset nor the level design communicated much (are we delving deeper into a dungeon? then make the vertical movement mostly down. in over our heads and trying to escape? then have the player move up. the level design felt quite meandering, and while it's noticeable in a jam game I think that it's critical to look up if you want to expand on the concept into something bigger). The music and sound effects are fine, if a bit repetitive. Besides all that, I did find quite a few bugs, in particular:
- In the tutorial screen, the character clipped through the floor, so I had no idea what the controls were. In particular, it took me a while to realise that A/B actually shoot coins, that they could toggle buttons, and that there was no interaction with the diamond goblins besides just reaching them.
- The block that you have to push into an initially hidden area bugged out upon dying and restarting the room, the area never revealed itself and I ended up pushing it over a black void.
- Upon exiting to the menu on the first screen and returning via New Game, the coins I collected were missing.
- Some of the block hitboxes were really iffy and stopped registering a push well before they should.
But overall, this is a very solid game that I enjoyed my playthroughs of!
