How does your game interpret and use the theme?
In the game you are playing as "Ropunzel", a character heavily inspired by the fairy tale character of "Rapunzel". Like her counterpart, Ropunzel lives in a tower. Wanting to get to her chamber at the top, she needs to climp the "long way home", using her magical hair and parcour skills...

Devlog Challenge?

No

Easter Egg Challenge?

Yes

Easter Eggs
The easter Egg is hidden in plain sight: Right after loading the level, just walk out of the tower using the exit to the left. This will trigger a secret second ending!

Did you use Farclip and want to be considered for the Farclip Award? (optional)

No

Game Engine?

Unity

Self-made & used stuff?

Homemade Graphics/Art (e.g. models and/or textures)

Have you joined a game jam before?

No

Roughly how much time did you spend developing? (in hours)
45h

Anything else you'd like to share about your game or development process?
This is the first Unity project I made entirely by myself and I'm quite happy with the result!

(I had to draw all the art with mouse only, which was quite the challenge because I forgot my tablet...)

Cool idea. Unfortunately, my screen is too small to play the game. Maybe try adding a full screen option that could fit the game to smaller screens.

OKAY, RAPUNZEL TURNED HER HAIR INTO A GRAPPLING HOOK! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿง—โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿชข

I love the twist in Tower Of Ropunzel! Using magical hair to grapple, swing, and parkour your way back to the top of a tower is such a clever way to bring the fairy tale into a platformer. The mechanic feels like a natural fit for the theme, and the distinctive art style and music help give the game its own personality. And that secret second ending hidden right at the beginning? That's a brilliant little surprise! ๐Ÿ‘€โœจ

The main thing I'd polish is the hair swinging physics. Making the movement feel a little more predictable and forgiving, especially when attaching or releasing the hair, could make the challenging climbs even more satisfying. A few checkpoints could also help players avoid losing too much progress after a difficult section.

A MAGICAL IDEA WITH REAL POTENTIAL! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’œ Making your first solo Unity project in around 45 hours is a fantastic achievement and drawing all the art with just a mouse makes it even more impressive! Keep climbing, Ropunzel, and best of luck with the jam! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘

Super fun idea with braid-hook mechanics. Everything works really well together - robo-aesthetics, music-box music, platformer mechanics.
Good job!

Funny idea and you made an original vibe out of that tropey character, well done!

The difficulty was a bit on the too punishing side in my opinion, you want jam games to be fairly easy if you want ratings and falling down to the beginning might prevent engagement.

But overall it's a nice little game, good work!

That was a very fun game! I liked the simple art style and how hard it is.

I played for about 15 minutes and found a few things. First, I liked the music. Second, I found a random bug where when you get really close to one of those magnet things, you connect with a really short hair part. Then when I clicked to break it, it was putting another on right away and it kept doing that until finally I got out. Another thing, it maybe was a little too hard. when I got to higher areas and it got harder, that can be a good thing but it was a little too hard for a jam like this.

One thing I would keep in mind with game jams, people usually play jam entries for around 10 minutes to 20 minutes. you want it to be a bit smaller so people can finish before moving on. One last thing, I think the secret ending is pretty cool.

If you would like, please take some time and play my game too!

Very fun twist on Rapunzel. This is really fun and you implemented some nice mechanics.

I love the simplicity of throwing your hair out to use as a grapple hook, then clicking again to cut yourself free. That's a really great idea, and you implemented it well.

I'd say you swinging needs to be dialed in a bit, as it feels quite floaty right now, maybe mess around with the player characters weight and gravity until she feels more solid. But as a prototype and considering the time limits we had, I'm impressed by your progress so far.

Great effort mate.

I really enjoyed this! Turning Rapunzel's hair into a parkour mechanic is such a funny and clever idea. I went from "why is she climbing like that?" to "honestly, this is probably the most practical use of magical hair I've ever seen" hahaha.

The game was simple but really charming, and I liked the little secret ending as well. Great job!

We also made a game for the jam, so if you have some time, we would really appreciate your thoughts on it. Always cool to get feedback from other developers.

Congrats on the submission!

Great game! The visuals are very polished, and the core mechanic is fun.

It may be intentional, but the movement controls are really tight and solid. I would have liked the hair mechanic to feel as tight and dialed in. It felt a little too unforgiving for me.

This is a really cool platformer. Had a blast.
