Hey, the cook from The Cooked Works here 👋 Fellow asset maker! We only opened our little shop on itch last week, so I’m still figuring things out too, but a few things jumped out at me.
One thing I’ve noticed so far is how much tags matter. Almost all of our traffic has come from itch’s browse pages (Newest, New & Popular, and tag pages like Godot or Unity), rather than search. I noticed you don’t have an engine tag yet, so swapping something like “DRM Free” for Godot or Unity might help put the pack in front of more people.
I’d also lead with a GIF showing the creatures actually moving. The sprite sheets look nice, but seeing the animations in action is what makes people go, “Oh, I want that.” Even a quick shot of a few creatures walking around on a simple tile floor would make it much easier to imagine them in a game.
A custom dark theme and a banner would help too. It’s a small thing, but it can make a new page feel much more polished and established.
On the AI side, we’re in a similar boat. Our assets come from procedural code we wrote with AI assistance, and we disclose that too. I think explaining in the first few lines how the art is actually made would help a lot, so people immediately understand what “AI assisted” means in your case.
And for Q3: definitely both! Since you already include sprite sheets and individual frames, I’d highlight that near the top of the page.
Rooting for you — good luck with the library! 😊
