Oh a typing game.
In addition to what the others have said; I tried it in German after unsuccessfully doing it in English. The Dialog was still English and the sentences to be written started out as PLACEHOLDER!? followed by something in Spanish(?).
Good start though.
Yea...the dialogue (non-typing) is always in English. We just made the typing to have a few languages to TRY To make it easier for people who do not speak/type English natively ^^; hopefully a more polished version that is fixed/finished comes out
As our artist mentioned, the dialogue is currently only in English; that issue was supposed to be fixed in the posted version, but it seems I missed it again. It should be corrected in the final version (along with other fixes based on all the feedback received so far).
Thanks for taking the time to try it out; I’ll be posting the final version soon.
I didn't think a typing game could be fun, but Ig framing can change things.
That said, there are a few things that could be improved:
Anyway, I actually had fun. Good job!
Yes, I did not properly capitalize things when translating the languages ^^; we are very aware of the issue. There also was supposed to be more of a story, but thank you!
I liked the different chants for each of the spells; they had some really interesting imagery in them. A lot of people have already commented on the capitalization issue with the font, but I'll definitely echo it. It is a nice font though, so if you wanted to keep using it, some other ways of indicating that it's supposed to be a capital letter might work also. I think I was mostly getting mixed up when they weren't at the beginning of "sentences" per say, so maybe it would help if there was more punctuation in the sentence, or in generally if there weren't random words that were capitalized, but more proper noun-ish type things. All the character designs were pretty cool, and I enjoyed the music as well. Typing sound effects were quite nice too. It'd be cool if each of the spells had their own little flair of animation or a special sound effect too!
The game looks pretty.
The capital letters were most of the time hard to see, also it's a bit weird to use question marks in a spell incantation.
Sometimes it was a little confusing if you got the same spell after you just completed it.
I think if the spells were shorter and there were more of them it would be more engaging, right now it got a bit boring to type out the same words after seeing them several times, even if it helped to remember them.
I don't know if it's because I lost to all except the first guy, there was no more dialogue, just some number going up, final and then another battle.
No...the game is not actually completed, and the issues with the letters is known. I am just the artist, not the programmer so not much I can do :c but I hope soon there is a completed version, but that depends on our progammer again.
Outstanding artwork. A bold choice going for a typing game for a game jam but it works well. The storyline is solid too. Agree with comments below about capitalisation though, particularly on the W's. Impressed that you'd managed to complete it in three different languages!
Thank you! Myself and the coder were able to do it, but yes, hopefully we can fix the capitalizations
The visual effects and transitions were very nice. The illustration was clearly well done, but as a typing game, this is not very good. The game punishes you for not capitalizing letters which just feels strange to me. TBH, I haven't played typing games in a while, but I don't think capitalization is usually required in them? Isn't it more about learning where are the letter keys are? Either way, with the font the way it is, I have a hard time telling what the letters on the screen are, let alone whether they are capitalized or not.
Yes, I am aware ^^; our coder knows too. I hope soon we have the fixed version to people are not having this issue. But thank you all the same.
its a very pretty game but I am at a loss as to what im supposed to do. I understand it's a typing game however no spells appeared in the box for the first fight. I'm not sure if it's a bug or user error so I'll touch on what I could see and interact with. The art was really pretty and I loved the mix of pre rendered 3d backgrounds. making a typing game is also a very bold and interesting genre for the jam!
Yes, you have the gist of it. I am not the programmer just the artist ^^; We are aware there are some bugs and some things that need to be finished. I am not sure when the finalized version will be out though, but thank you for the compliments all the same!
Hi, thanks for checking out the game, and sorry about the error. All the art was created by Ahiru—who also took and edited most of the photos for the pre-rendered backgrounds—so all the credit goes to her! I'm not sure exactly what might be going on, considering the web version seems to be working fine, but I've included some fixes in the next version that should address the likely causes of the issue. My apologies again for the inconvenience!
I really liked the idea of typing spells, but I think the game would benefit from one or two more spell texts, since I was often typing the same spell in a row just with different punctuation marks at the end. Also, the font made it difficult to distinguish lower-case w and capital W.
I don't know if the enemies attack more if you mistype, since I was often mixing up w and W, but it seemed like they attacked too fast and I could only just type fast enough to drain their health first. Maybe a game speed slider would be good so the player can adjust the difficulty to their typing speed.
I managed to win against two of the three opponents. I thought I might get a bad ending or a game over, but that didn't seem to change anything in the story. I like the character portraits and expressions, but a lot of the dialogue just seems to be "....". It would be nice to have some conversation with the opponent characters before and after the fight.
Thank you ^_^ yes, our coder/team lead will add the extra dialogue. We simply submitted what he had completed at the time.
As well, I think the plan is to adjust the difficulty of the enemies and fix some of the random capitals.
There are 8 spells in total, but they are random, so it's definitely possible to get two spells in a row. I will do something so more spells appear more often.
Yeah, the font—I'm going to change it; it's already a problem I encounter when playing.
Yep, the enemies attack faster the more mistakes you make. I will add the slider, though, so you can adjust the enemies' attack speed.
There is a game over screen that I thought was implemented, but it appears not; I will fix that.
Yeah, that was the plan, haha; it will be included as soon as posible.
Thank you so much for trying the game and for the feedback!, i like the slider idea.
I really haven’t the faintest idea what I’m supposed to do in the first fight. It was supposed to be a fight, right? Because there was a bar that was slowly going down.
Yes...our game coder was working on the final dialogue to submit it. If you come back later, all the dialogue and feedback I/our other team mates gave should be implemented. I am working on making the game page, and the instructions should be posted shortly.
It's a typing game where you fight by completing the "spell" that appears on the panel! The bars at the bottom represent your health and your opponent's health.
