I feel like this game has so much potential, and I'll be thrilled to see what it becomes.
The art style is lovely, the lore is intriguing, and I appreciate that you've got some really unique game mechanics. It's neat stuff!
That being said, I think some of the explanations were a bit confusing when it came to the farming aspect. I never really figured out EXACTLY what I was supposed to be doing, and it felt like a lot of time I was just clicking around until things happened. I felt really bad seeing my tree suffer and not knowing how to fix it - it was definitely a skill issue on my end, but I know there's definitely a way you're supposed to go about it, and I was having trouble grasping exactly what I was supposed to do. Sorry if that makes the stream a bit hard to watch!
I appreciate the minimalist, text-free UI, but it was a bit unclear as to what everything was. It might be nice to have a feature where if you hover over something on the UI, it'll tell you what it is. I also think there were too many proper nouns in the dialogue. I think it's exciting when certain words are capitalized, like "Seeds," and "Cleansing," as it makes them seem more special and specific than they normally would be, but I think that needs to be more intentional - if too many words are proper nouns, it kind of feels like overkill. For example, the sentence, "You decide to Open the Door to the Outside," has so many capitalized words that it makes the capitalization feel like a mistake rather than being on purpose.
I also had the same issue with the confusing hallway navigation that another player mentioned - I think there are two hallway maps that are connected, where if you exit through the bottom of one hallway map, you end up at the bottom of the other hallway map. Spatially, since i wanted to exit that hallway, I wanted to keep moving down, which would just take me back and forth between both hallways. Since the hallways look so similar, that could definitely cause some confusion for players.
I do think there are the bones of something really cool here, though, and I think with a clearer explanation, the pieces are definitely here to make a legendary game. I wanna know what the deal is with this world! Keep it up!
I played the game here on stream around 3:43:30
Hey! With FQ9 ending soon, I wanted to let you know that I won't be able to cover your game until after the event. If you're okay with waiting, just keep the game on the event and I'll be getting around to it over the next couple of months or so. :)
That's fine, I will be updating the game in the meantime so whatever version you play by then would be hopefully way better than it is now.
Hey I gave the game a play. I like the overall vibe, and the story.
The biggest bit of feedback is that the interactions with the tree seem to be causing a lot of slowdown for me. I played on a browser, on edge, so that might be the issue. But I think it probably has to do with the particles. But it really slowed things down and made it hard to play and get anywhere.
But I could see this being fun, though there are some other points of friction:
--The UI is not very clear. Like I never knew whether I would be able to plant something or not. It just kind of happened.
--Navigating the hallway at the start is weird, though maybe that's by design. The art and environment are interesting enough to keep me searching around.
--I have my doubts that the loop of pruning and planting on the tree will be enough to hold people's interest. I guess I didn't make it very far, but I'm not sure what sort of upgrades or things I'd be interested in buy to make whatever I was doing more efficient. But maybe I'm just not thinking about it right.
I did update the game and so that should have likely fixed the issue with the particles I think. There could be some stuff that I still missed out on. But yes as for the other stuff you mentioned, I did make like a more proper tutorial for the Game, so hopefully for the most part that does explain how the UI and the gameplay functions..
I am not entirely sure how you mean weird in regards to the Hall though, the only thing I can think of is like the second camera not fully showing the downward path, so i kinda tweaked it a bit so the path is more visible now..
As for the third point yes I have considered how to develop the gameplay further, I am still not sure about all its details yet, but it most likely wouldn't be just straight up stats boosting upgrades. I am considering it to be more like Charms from Hollow Knight, with a proper build of sorts that kinda stacks together. The details are still hazy but thats the general idea. Hopefully its fun.
Either way thanks for playing the Game.
Hi! Thanks for playing our game, RPS2. I just tried yours out and I love the concept, I thought it was very cool. The overall vibe was fitting to the short bit of story outlined on the main page. The music itself felt atmospheric but a little repetitive at times, and I got a little lost as to what to interact with or how not to kill off the tree lol. (I lost pretty quick). I definitely think this has potential and has room to be a very interesting story with some tweaks to help the player understand the goals a bit easier. Thanks again! :)
I did work on a bit of those tweaks you mentioned so now atleast the game should be somewhat understandable in what it is trying to do. It has a more clear tutorial atleast but yes it does still end after the first day. The Endings of the game there are basically the route i see the story taking but nothing is set in stone yet. Glad you liked the Atmosphere, but yeaa the music does get repetitive after a while, I was kinda going for the Yume Nikki vibe but probably didn't reach that level of clarity yet
Hello, I played the game. after the first night the game ended? I don’t know if this is intended or if I did something wrong (seems like probably the latter).
My Playthrough
I was wandering the halls for a while trying to interact with everything. I noticed that the footsteps particles were always active even when not walking.
I eventually ended up at a tree. It asked e to wait. SO I kept clicking wait. I did not know how to get out of this screen and the game lagged a lot here. I exited and restarted the game. Went to the tree fiddled with the UI enough to figure out how to plant a tree.
Then I exited using cleanse button and evetually interacted with a window. The dude gave me five seeds and told me more about the Nezrot. I assumed this is the tutorial guy.
I did what he asked and completed the tutorial. Made food and then tried to sleep. Which ended the game.
Things I liked
Things that can be improved.
Overall a fun experience!
If you have any specific questions do let me know!
It has been a week but I did work on most of the things you did suggest so that took a while. But yes the game right now does basically end after the first day, I was mostly interested in getting the main gameplay loop done and see how people interact with it. This version is technically similar to that, but the main difference is that as you said it needed a more traditional tutorial, so did that, i am hoping it does make things make more sense.
The footstep particle thing was something I was supposed to fix ages ago but just slipped my mind. As for the lag issue, i had like a general idea of why that was happening in the previous version. It is kinda happening now as well not as sure why though but would figure it out soon enough. Forgot the Audio bit, will see what to do for that as well. But yeaaa thanks for playing the Game.
I really like the overall premise. Taking something as normally peaceful as farming and putting it into a post-apocalyptic setting gives the game a pretty interesting atmosphere.
The idea of having to keep everyone alive while protecting what is basically the last bit of life left in the world is a nice hook, and I think the atmosphere is probably the strongest part of the game for me.
I would like to see a little more feedback and clarity around what I should prioritize, especially early on, but the core idea is definitely interesting. With some more polish and content, I think this could become a pretty unique farming/survival game
Thanks for playing the game and yeaa clarity part makes sense, i am curious tho how far did you actually reach in the game and if something was particularly unclear in regards to what to do.
