I love your tagline, chuckled at it, and i liked some of lines.
The resolution is definitely way too small.
Hard to say much more as this was mostly exposition-packed monologue (which, if you continue on this project, would recommend on scattering around chapters more, like in full version main character might instead of thinking about their ex-coworker, leave it to the moment when they meet him or smth).
