I really enjoyed this! The atmosphere is fantastic, and I love the choice to edit the backgrounds to look like old photographs. Soo Silent Hill vibes.

The backgrounds didn't always blend perfectly with the character art, but the story was intriguing.

Overall, really great work!

The colors of the UI blend really well with the overall tone of the backgrounds! Everything has this aged paper-like texture, and I think you've done a great job of maintaining that distinctive aesthetic throughout the game.

(And just as a side note, I absolutely love the book's design, especially the cover! I kind of wish I could have a copy of it myself.)

That said, I feel like the character sprites look a little disconnected from the backgrounds. If it were me, I'd probably try to make the overall color palette a bit more consistent to help everything blend together.

Also, I found a bug! I'll attach a screenshot to show you.

The atmosphere of this is lovely. Editing the backgrounds like old photographs is a beautiful aesthetic choice. I'm reminded of Silent Hill in a way (a good way!) in the muddiness over what's real and what isn't. Really narratively strong. I did notice that the dialogue sometimes has brackets and sometimes doesn't, even when the people are speaking.

Loved the experience, your sprite work is very good ! I had some trouble staying engaging with the backgrounds clashing with the rest (except the two that are not filtered photos) but the story kept me going, it's impressive that you managed to craft this cohesive and complete story in a so short span ! GG !
