Hi uberneen! The self-aware, humorous writing in the intro made me smile, and the rune-chain combat system (runes evoking left to right, gear affinities triggering extra effects) is a genuinely interesting take on "chain reaction." The pixel art dungeon/battle scenes look great, though some gear icons are still placeholder silhouettes - totally understandable for jam scope. I'd love to see this fleshed out further; the core loop has real potential!
As it is now, it's pretty rough... The enemy with 3 runes almost turned into a stalemate. Then the next enemy with 4 runes just OTKs me before I got to move... ouch.
The enemy pixel art itself is fine, but the excessive linear scaling makes it very blurry. Try resizing the textures up in another program (e.g. paintdotnet) with nearest-neighbor or sharp filter, then let Defold linear-scale it the rest of the way. Or use a sprite material with a shader (which could be hard to find and/or time consuming to learn).
So like you mention it needs more development time. For me it feels like i am overpowerd. and it really dont mater what i choice.
and it feels like there 3 art styles that dont really combine.
but for 2 weeks i think you made a decent system
Thank you for the feedback and for giving the game a try. The first levels are pretty easy and then they get too hard. I didn't get a lot of time to play test before the deadline so the balance is definitely off. If you play enough to have the background of the level change it will become too difficult unless you managed to get some really lucky rolls on gear and runes in the first three fights. Gear is basically only useful if it has triggers or primary stats at the moment.
The concept is easy to understand, though it still feels like there’s quite a bit of room for development. I also think this idea could be really interesting to explore in 3D.
Thank you for the feedback. I ended up having about six days and just couldn't get a few critical features implemented in time. I'll definitely be working in it some more and post an updated version after judging is complete. 3D is a great idea. I'm a lot better at that than 2D art so I could make more uniform assets instead of collecting them from the magical land of Creative Commons (which I love!)
