500$ prize Jam was actually a scam.

I didn't enter with the intention of winning the cash prize or placing in the top ranks. The biggest draw of this jam was getting feedback from a supposed publisher.

The jam, organized by  eclipse publishing announced the winners (on its Discord server) one hour before the submission deadline. In addition, the "winners" were instructed to claim their prize in that same message.

When the submissions closed (a little less than two hours later) the judging was completed and the official winners were announced 5 DAYS prior the the supposed official date. They were the same three users who had been announced earlier, plus one other participant, with a two-way tie for first place.

- No evaluation criteria were provided

- Both my Discord teammate and I were banned

Minutes later, he deleted all the jam's channels from Discord, accused us of personal harassment via private messages (which didn't happen), and shut down the jam.

I just want to leave this message so that, if you ever come across another jam organized by these "publishers" in the future, you'll be careful.

EDIT 1:

The JAM: /jam/eclipse-publishingjam

EDIT 2:

They removed the price that was supposed to be earned by winners too:

EDIT 3: they closed the jam for a couple minutes so they could remove the money price but forgot the word CASH from their post ;)

EDIT 4: forgot to remove this tweet too, oops.

I just noticed that Jams, unlike games, do not have a Report link. Nonetheless, I would recommend reporting to itch.io support in addition to positing here, because the itch.io staff does not read the community forums.

a friend of mine said the same thing about this jam. That it is most likely a scam jam. Lol that rhymes.

It seems more people complained https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1wynp2o/comment/pe8hnrb/?context=1&scr...

Hey y'all, I also participated in that publisher's Game Jam. If like me you are not entirely satisfied on how confusing things went about that jam I invite you to submit your game to the Salvage the Jam so we can have a safe place where we can all showcase, play, and feedback our games

Go check it out :)
