How did you interpret the themes?
We interpreted GENRE COLLISION as a structural collision between detective mystery, evidence restoration, and adversarial deception.

In The Last Exhibit, investigation is not separated from the simulation layer. Evidence is something the player physically handles: cleaning a surface can reveal a clue, destroy a trace, expose a mechanism, or change what another investigator will later be able to reconstruct.

The Story mode combines classic deduction with restoration and evidence manipulation. Duel mode pushes that collision further: one player alters or preserves evidence while the other investigates the physical record left behind, without access to the first player's hidden actions or checks.

Our goal was not simply to place several genres side by side, but to make them operate on the same objects and the same information.

The submission form references a sealed second theme, but we were unable to locate its revealed details on the jam page, so this submission addresses the published GENRE COLLISION theme.

Yeah this is like those old escape room games you would get on the iPad in the old days. Peak.

Developer

Thank you!! That comparison actually makes me really happy 😭

Those old iPad escape room games had such a specific atmosphere — poking at strange objects, finding mechanisms, slowly realizing how everything connects. I’m really glad The Last Exhibit gave you even a little bit of that feeling.❤️❤️❤️

The restoration bench is such a clever collision with the detective side. Brushing the dust off the warming case and watching a hand-shaped impression appear in the lining, then seeing it drop into my findings, felt like doing the investigation with my own hands. And the reveal that I'm actually the crime-scene cleaner hired to bury the truth is a great twist!

Developer

Thank you so much for this comment — it genuinely means a lot to me.

I’m especially happy that the restoration bench felt like part of the investigation rather than a separate minigame. That “doing the investigation with your own hands” feeling was one of the main things I wanted to achieve, so hearing that the warming case reveal worked for you is incredibly encouraging.

And I’m glad the cleaner reveal landed too! Thank you for taking the time to play and write such a thoughtful response. 🥹
