1) Currently there is no way. The growth mod "deposit" mode was supposed to reset orb growth to the start point (not reset the model fully), but it was bugged in v11 and fixed in v12. I'll see about adding this as a more complete feature though.
2) I haven't been able to replicate this, though v13 contains some changes that may fix things once it releases.
