What, if any, Jam-Specific Challenges did you include in your entry?
Small Hawkzombie cameo (check one of the backgrounds!)

Does your game require playing multiple routes to get the full experience?
There is one pretty short dead end that gives a bit of context, and then the main path. The dead end is very short compared to the main path.

Approximately how long is your game (in minutes)?
The game should be around 30 to 40 minutes long depending on how fast you read. There are 5500+ words in this VN.

Three things I liked about this entry:

  1. The art is SO GOOD. In fact, the whole visual presentation is great. Weather effects, good font, good looking UI.
  2. The audio presentation is pretty good, too. The music changes to fit the mood of the scene nicely, and is generally pleasant to listen to. There are even occasional sound effects.
  3. No walls of text or dialogue that isn't purposeful. All text segments were reasonable lengths and kept the action going forward. That may seem like a basic competency, but it's something I have seen a lot of visual novels and story-heavy games fail at, so good job avoiding that.

Three things I did not like:

  1. There is only 1 choice in the entire experience. Not necessarily the worst, since it's a visual novel, but a little more agency would have been nice. Maybe even an organizing minigame would have been something to improve engagement.
  2. I'm left with more questions than answers by the end of the demo. While that will likely be addressed by the story eventually being completed, right now I have so little to work with that it's hard for me to say much about the story. I do want to know more about the characters and what all is going on, so at least that is good, but after playing so many other entries where we have a more-or-less complete experience it feels a little odd to only get an intro here.
  3. Also likely a symptom of this just being the very beginning of the story, but I don't feel like this is much of a horror story. Sure, the opening scene is pretty scary for the main character, but once that gets resolved it's just 2 dudes walking and talking.

I forgot to mention that I loved the little Hawk plush cameo!

Took me around 30 min to finish this chapter.

The small animations throughout the chapter gives it an extra immersion without being distracting,  instead of staring at fixed images you have falling, rain, fog, the fire was one of my favorites along the glowing chimney fire.

I also really liked the sprites moving even if simple side by side, it made it  more dynamic, seeing Flynn "run" to one side and the other made me laugh a bit, it helps show a bit more of the characters personalities.
The soundtrack is very well done, both the pauses and changes to back up the mood of the dialoge. It is impressive the amount of art you managed to finish in the jam period, seriously.

The only thing that's a bit hard to judge is the story since it is only the beginning (which is understandable given how fast a month goes by), it is easy to assume both characters are not being fully honest, and there is something there, but aside that I am guessing the fragmentation will be more obvious once there are more chapters.

Okay, I started my run out with a BANGER and I'm happy I did. Your games never disappoint me, and this one isn't an exception. I think the only thing I can say is that I wish there were more choices to be made, but I also know that that might have gone beyond the scope of the jam. I can't wait for the other days to come out, because what I played through was really good. I felt like every line spoken had multiple meanings and all of them fit. Very good job. I also loved how the music clashed against the situation being depicted. It didn't quite calm down what was happening, but it definitely made everything more humorous - in a way, I think that fits the theme because it can make the player forget how serious the actual story is.
