Forge of the Elements  Beta 1.6 playtest

Hey all! I’ve been continuing work on my turn-based fantasy roguelike, resurrected from a project I abandoned about 20 years ago. Choose a race and class, descend through 25 floors, and combine elemental motes at forges to shape your equipment and magic. The full run is playable in your browser on desktop or mobile.

Beta 1.6 brings a broad art pass, expanded animations for all player characters, dedicated Tourist sprites, and lots of new rooms and discoveries. I’ve also revisited early and late-game balance and added map travel to make returning to familiar places easier.

I’m a longtime roguelike player and a data scientist who regularly uses AI for coding and research. This project also uses AI-generated artwork and music. My original goal was to make something my kids and I could play on a phone or tablet, and player feedback has helped it grow.

I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Difficulty: Do deaths feel fair, and can you understand what went wrong?
  • The forge: Does combining motes make sense, and does it lead to interesting builds?
  • Mobile: How do the touch controls, readability and performance feel? Please play in landscape.
  • Presentation: Does the art feel cohesive? Any awkward sprites or animations?

If you try it, tell me your race and class, how far you got, and what ended your run!
