I made my entry, but I love these kinds of restricted jams. It was super fun and a blast.

I kinda lucked out with the theme b/c it gave me the perfect excuse to try out a movie poster aesthetic.

How are other folks doing with the jam?

Not enough time for me, haha. Looking for next one!

Man it was nice to participate this year, I feel like I redeemed myself after struggling last year with the 1bit theming.
Saw your deltarune poster artwork, it's awesome.

Thanks! I'm really glad how well it came together. Your kamen rider drawing is super impressive too. I'm surprised you got it looking that accurate on the gameboy. I especially like the outlining technique you used for the pants, having the pants be the darkest color. Somehow it just stands out to me.

Submitted

Thank you so much but I genuinely think it has nothing on your expert use of highlights. I must sadly say the outline on the pants was a fluke caused by lack of planning lol, I am satisfied with how it came out though

Submitted

If it makes you feel any better alot of my technique was born from thousands of earlier flukes :D
It's part of the process I feel. I think there's some good aspects in your own art that you can hone in, it's got promise.

Submitted

oh thank you. I genuinely appreciate the kind words. I should probably start making pieces more often and work on improving since it's a process I genuinely enjoy. Also yeah I'm aware of trial and error though, but hey, only happy little accidents work out surprisingly often for me

This was a fun one!

Spent Friday evening racking my brain and doodling what to do with "3"... then after finding a concept, it came together pretty quick.

Excited to see what everyone did with the theme; I bet there'll be tons of different interpretations!!!

Wasn't the jam topic announced only on Saturday?

Submitted

No, the theme was revealed when the jam started on Friday.

Submitted

Yea it took alot to wrack my brain for a concept of 3, but once I got it, it was almost auto-pilot from there. Any chance we'll get to see a fun youtube video for your gameboy pixel art entry? I bet it'd be super fun to watch

For sure! I recorded timelapse while making mine, hoping to put a jam video together in the next couple weeks!

Submitted

awesome! cant wait to see it.

It'd be really cool to get a highlight reel of the other jam entries that really stood out to you too. There's alot of good ones and I feel like I'm failing to notice a good chunk of them.

I really enjoyed it! I didn't give myself much time, so I decided to keep it minimalist and focus on getting the perspective right.

All the submissions I've seen so far look amazing; I can't wait to see more :)

Honestly good call with minimalism. I ended up doing the same thing b/c I could tell the 4 color pallete wouldve been painful otherwise

My first ever pixel art jam, it was a lot of fun! I used some of the sprites from the game I’m working on, and it was cool to see them actually work in four Game Boy colors. And I had to do a little animation too.

Submitted

Color pallete reduction is super satisfying. I remember when I had a character sprite that I thought needed 20 colors, but I got that down to 8. That feeling is like nothing else honestly.

HostSubmitted

Thank you for participating, I really like your sprites. I look forward to the game. Please share it here when it’s available.

Much appreciated! Just to be clear, SpaceDeck X is not a Game Boy game, but I would gladly share it when the Steam page is up.

I didn’t have much time to think about it, my mind went “three” ok, Trinity. I actually made an image on the Trinity test, but decided I had contravened our own rules of being a bit too political/controversial.

My first ever jam! I had lots of fun. The color and tiling restraints made it just difficult enough, but the vague theme gave lots of freedom so everyone's submission is different. Looking forward to doing more pixel art and hopefully getting better in the future lol!

Submitted

I really enjoyed it! At first the theme absolutely stumped me, but in the end, I'm really happy with my art! There's a few cerberuses, cerberi? but it's fun to see how different they all are!

It's been a suuuuper long time since I've properly done any pixel art at all, so I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn!

Animation in aseprite for me next! >:3

I had a lot of fun making my piece! Definitely gonna submit to next year's jam if I can! :3

Whilst I struggled coming up with an idea and then had several ideas that I immediately hated when trying to draw them…. Had a good time anyway :D Will have to try and remember to swing back around next year. More importantly I’ll have to try and get back into doing pixel art more frequently.

HostSubmitted

You did a great job in the end.

It was a lot of fun this year again, I appreciate this jam a lot. I wish I had started earlier on it, I really only spent 4 hours on it on sunday. Heh, life sometimes get in the way.

This is my first time  participating in a pixel jam. I've never done pixel art in this style before, so it was a great opportunity to learn something new! I struggled a bit with the tiles constraint. I don't know how many hours I spent trying to reduce the number of unique tiles, I had to get rid of some details and simplify the background but thankfully it turned out ok at the end.

Looking forward to joining the next jam! :)
