Cute game, quick playthrough but enjoyable.  I played on web and tbh didn't mind the camera limitations - made me feel more like a rat.

Some notes:

  • I didn't understand that the robot is the only real obstacle.  My first play I ran right up to it and got myself caught.
  • There really weren't any other obstacles or reasons to jump.
  • I really liked how the jack-o-lanterns changed after getting the cheese!  Would have been cool if it got dark and the jack-o-lanterns were the only lighting in the scene.
  • Would have liked some more challenging mechanics - maybe some mouse traps statically placed that are active on the way in, but then the robot is active on the way out, making things a bit more strategic.
  • I'm super impressed by your modeling - definitely looked and felt like a rat, with some nice animations, especially the tail!

Great work :)

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing, Rhino!

Glad you liked the rat! It deserved more and better animations, but I screwed up the rigging, so I made it more simple.

At the beginning, the robot wasn't there at all. It's a character of one of my previous games that I added at the last moment as an "automated hoover". I wanted to add a cat that I modeled before, but I couldn't get to that point. The jack-o-lanterns were supposed to only be decorations, but again I reused stuff from another game of mine. I didn't want to make it too creepy, though 5you can have a look at my game of last Halloween if you want, I did play with light).

The idea of the mouse traps is very good! The cubes were supposed to be obstacles, but the traps are also interesting. If I can make them not too gore.

Thanks a lot! See you next time!

Dude, this is so fun and creative! 😄 Two small suggestions:

  • Different music for each quest would give each one its own feeling.
  • A quick effect when you catch someone, like a flash or colour change, would make it feel even more satisfying.

Great job, I love it!

If you have some free time, I'd love for you to try mine too: Uninvited Chickos, a Halloween rhythm runner with two chickens escaping a goblin feast 🐔 Good luck!

Cute idea. Minor note, the cover photo name doesn't match the actual game name. Nice movement on the rat.

Thanks for your kind comment, Makarose. I'm happy you liked the rat ; I would have liked to work more on the animations.

Good catch on the title, the cover is right. I updated the game's name.

I liked the game, but it was a little short and the obstacles could have been more focused on using the movement mechanics. The rat was cute!

Thanks for your helpful comment, Poppy. I'm happy you liked the rat.

I added the cubes at random at the very end. They have (basic) physics, so I wanted to build a wall with them and make the player run through, but with little time left, I gave up.

That's a great idea for the future of you ever plan on continuing the game :)

Interesting game.  Is this heading to mobile?  The mobile icons on the screen was a little confusing.  Also is sounds like someone is take a really long shower.  Found the cheese and made it back home for a bite.

Developer

Thanks.

I was targeting mobile and desktop, and I had some trouble with the on-screen controls, so if you had issues, I'm interested in hearing more details.

Normally you should be able to rotate the camera freely by dragging the screen; it worked in the engine but not in Web. I'll try to see why this is happening.

And yes, hot water seems cheap in there. 😆

I didn't have any real troubles once I used the arrow keys.  WADS did not work very well and would only turn one direction, which did end up running me into a corner and I somehow found a gap in the colliders and fell to the floor under the scene.  After a restart and using the arrow keys it was not a problem.  I heard the water running and kept looking around for it.  Is the plan for the pumpkins to chase you once you get the cheese?

Developer

Man, thanks a lot for having reported this ! I was trapped again. I'm sure other people tried the game but went away without telling because of this.

The keyboard inputs are fully fixed, including jumping, dashing and resetting the camera.

Concerning the pumpkins, I initially planned to add a cat that would wake up and chase, but I ran out of time so I recycled items from my other games (the robot is the character of my first game). The pumpkin was only there for the decoration, but with no cat, I added the laugh from yet another game.

Thanks again, STovE !

Man I know the feeling of not enough time... A black cat chasing you back to the hole would be awesome.  Went back and checked out your fixes.  Man that's way better.  Nice job on the quick fix.  Cheers!
