All 3 of us would consider ourselves "generalist" which is great but also means everyone can and wants to work on all aspects. We all made a prototype and then took pieces of all 3 prototypes to create the end game. It was cool and an interesting way to approach the jam. Not the most efficient but it worked.
Totally agree with you. Had three different programmers all working independently on prototypes that got mashed together in the last couple of day of the jam to make it come together. Right click on the mouse would have been great choice. Apricate the feedback and thanks for taking the time to play.
Hey Smoses, Dude thanks for playing man. Great idea on some in game instructions on a tombstone. If only we had more time.... Yeah, once you see the Victory text it's game over. We made a real effort to keep the scope in check for this one. Might have gone too far but at least this time around everyone should easily be able to complete the game.
Mintee, Thanks for giving it a go. Was def going for a Monkey Island vibe. Manic Mansion from the 80's was another great point and click game I loved back in the day. We were trying to keep scope in check, but still get out an entire experience that was entertaining. We had a blast and learned a ton.
Obzibobzi, Apricate the feedback and thanks for taking the time to comment and play the game. Definitely agree this one was set to easy mode. Game Jam puzzles are a tough nut to crack. You make them to hard and people bounce off the game because they think it's a bug or poor game design. Thanks again for playing.
Def gonna dig into this because I think the Steam Machine and by proxy it's controller has big potential for indie devs due to the way the other consoles have been preforming as of late. Was being lazy and thought I would ask you in case you knew something off hand about the new controller. I have a Steam deck, and a steam controller but alas no Steam Machine. I have never thought about playing the jam games on the deck. That could be fun. On the last GDTV game jam this last May, I tried a very ambitious game called "Sparks". While nothing like your current game, in genre or theme, I felt at home playing your game and understand all of the time it takes to get all of those little systems going. Just wanted you to know that someone recognized all the effort and I think it is great for 10 days. On a very side note, I am currently taking the GDTV Assets Program. I learned something the other day about assets and thought I might share. If you already know this and ran out of time, I mean no offense. I noticed that some of your trees and roofs were "leaky" or had windows here the light was passing through. In the Inspector on the objects mesh renderer component under lighting you can set it to Two Sided in the Cast Shadows field. This might fix that issue. Like I said, I just learned this last week and if you already knew this mean no offense.
I have tried a few other games with controller support and I need to try something other than a Steam Controller. I don't know if it is as simple as just locking the cursor if the game detects a gamepad or if it is the steam controller. I don't know enough about the difference between the controllers to say one way or the other. Again had fun with this one!
I didn't have any real troubles once I used the arrow keys. WADS did not work very well and would only turn one direction, which did end up running me into a corner and I somehow found a gap in the colliders and fell to the floor under the scene. After a restart and using the arrow keys it was not a problem. I heard the water running and kept looking around for it. Is the plan for the pumpkins to chase you once you get the cheese?
This is awesome man! Reading you page how cool is it to make your daughters story come to life. Very excited to see both keyboard and controller options. Just a thing I noticed when playing with controller and I am not sure if this is a Steam controller issue(what I was using) or if its all controllers, but the courser would continue to move with the right stick and the window is borderless and would drift to a second monitor and pause the game. I know this took some effort and just wanted to say well done.
