It took me a little while to figure out how it works, but I found the idea interesting. I’d suggest including some kind of tutorial or smaller introductory stages.
In game jams, you usually need a way for players to quickly understand your game. There are so many games to play and rate, so I recommend adding ways for players to learn how to play yours.
I really like strategy games, which kept me engaged a bit longer, but I agree with the others that it was a bit heavy for a game jam.
I'll be honest, I think this is way too complicated of a game to give to players in a game jam setting. It's the sort of game that really needs multiple levels of gradually increasing difficulty and a slower introduction of new systems. I found it too overwhelming at first glance... over a dozen action words / concepts that I didn't understand yet, everywhere I looked. I didn't really know where to start... the Basics in Help were not basic enough! Starting with the first sentence - "consume every rival fungus" - I don't even know which colour fungus is me and which is the rival. As developers, we underestimate what new players know (I get it, I've also made games that unintentionally confuse new players at first).
I don't mean to rag on your game - I bet there are some great concepts and strategic systems in there! But unfortunately hidden behind a bit of an impenetrable layer for my brain to get to grips with.
This is pretty obviously vibe coded, which is against the jam rules. The capsule art being ai also tipped me off.
So basically you made nothing, why bother at all?
This is pretty unique concept for this jam! Definitely did not expect a strategy game, but that's why I'm exploring! It took some time to get it but once I did it was really fun!
Nice job! It was kind of difficult to understand the strategy which I think made it become a bit too slow getting into it. I think a more staggered introduction of the mechanics would be really good to draw people in :)
I had fun playing this game !
Good idea—it really drew me in.
Hi!
I gave it a try, but I had a hard time figuring out the mechanics, maybe because I'm not familiar with this type of game. I genuinely wanted to challenge the AI, but I couldn't quite figure out how to learn as I played. Would you consider adding a tutorial?
I agree that might be helpfull
