Can I make a different genre of Bird game?

I’m hoping to make a bird ecosystem roguelike in November or December and saw this jam. It looks like yall have a great community.

Would I still be welcome to participate and submit for this jam if I made a roguelike with not-particularly furry art? The one-month, no AI, and bird theme fit my goals so well so it’d be cool to participate.

Totally fine if the answer is no!

Jam Host

Hello and welcome!

While the jam is primarily about creating and sharing Visual Novels, we don't mind stretching the definition a bit to allow for other kinds of videogames or story presentations. However, please do keep in mind that the jam is made by and for furries that enjoy engaging with stories or narrative-heavy games. (In fact, a lot of people in the FVN space aren't that enthused when VNs feature gameplay elements at all.)

So, in order to make sure this jam is the right fit both for you as a creator and for others as your potential audience, your entry should be a "furry narrative" in some fashion or other. If you think in good faith that your submission can fit under that definition, then it should be fine! If not, then probably this isn't the right jam for your particular idea.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. That all sounds totally fair! I will probably sit this one out then, since my game won’t have that strong of a narrative component.

Good luck to all the jammers!
