Something I Have Learned!

Hi! I was solo developing a game here, and as it turns out, trying to complete a game alone in 14 days with no game experience is hard. I'm going to come back next time to one of these cozy jams with experience and work with a team, but I'm writing this because I wanted to tell others to not be afraid to work with others in these kind of projects! Especially if they aren't doing this for the reward but the experience. I have learned a lot from this experience and really enjoyed it, but with the pace I'm at and the fact I have something else going on in my family starting tomorrow, I gotta stop here. Good luck everyone else! (I'm 100% going to check out the submissions I'm excited :D)

Pretty much in the same boat, had a busy week and a minimal viable project would take more time than expected. I'm still working on it though, even if i don't finish it by the deadline, the process pushed me to learn faster than i would by myself.

I had school . . but i still somehow finished, with the power of nO LifE

Same here lol. I made the base game in like 3 days with out art yet. then procastinated a lot. now I only have 3 days to do the art and music stuff. I wonder if I should still submit it even if it looks awful

Even if it looks awful, if it still functions you should totally submit! Mine doesn't have gameplay yet as I spent most of the time making the 3d models just to learn the program I used didn't play nice with the engine lol, but what I made instead in Blender I might still publish tomorrow, even if its just the house I made. Besides, having it there will help you look back at it later for reference!

Yeah, I procrastinated like . .what. .  5 days or something RI

even if u dont finish ur game completely or it doesnt end up looking as good as u were hoping, id still submit it...
that shud provide u a motivation to polish and update it after the jam :D

I think tomorrow once I get free time I'll submit the (somewhat barebones) build, and maybe even post the w.i.p. model I made for a character. It may not have gameplay, but even just having the scene set and shown would be nice. Also, I do plan to make it after the jam once I can! I'm really happy with the concepts and especially both the building and character model. :D

I started in March the first 11 games (3 jams) were pretty weak.   It takes time to improve.   Look at my summer Comfy jam vs this one!  I made some major breakthroughs on the 12th game (up to 14 with this jam).  I'm working on a Steam version for #12.

Don't get discouraged and good luck next time! This is my second jam and this time I've had more people on the team, and I gotta admit, having a bigger team is NOT easier XD (the first jam it was only two of us, me and my artist). You plan a bigger thing considering you have more working hands and then life ruins everyone's plans and you still end up cutting a lot of planned content out, simplifying design on fly, and swapping tasks between each other.
