[UNPAID/HOBBY] [UE5] THE WAY YOU KNOW ME — Psychological Horror Game Seeking Collaborators

๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿฉธ THE WAY YOU KNOW ME

Genre: Psychological Horror / Narrative Survival

Setting: 1987, Northern Pennsylvania

Perspective: First-Person / Stylized 2.5D

Development Status: Preproduction

Team: Recruiting remote collaborators

Compensation: Proposed unpaid/portfolio-focused collaboration, pending appropriate legal arrangements

๐ŸŒฒ ABOUT THE GAME

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm Danielle, a UT Dallas graphic design student and the Game Director, Creative Director, and Lead Writer of THE WAY YOU KNOW ME, an independent psychological survival-horror project.

Set in October 1987, the story follows four longtime companions stranded in an isolated Pennsylvania logging valley after their route becomes impassable.

Seeking shelter, they discover an abandoned timber cabin.

But as the night progresses, familiar faces and voices become increasingly difficult to trust. A supernatural predator can convincingly imitate the appearances, voices, and behaviors of people they know.

Players experience the story through Audra Bell, a young woman who must investigate a decades-old mystery while deciding whom to trust, whom to rescue, and how to survive.

๐ŸŽฌ GAMEPLAY FEATURES

๐ŸŽฎ First-person, stylized 2.5D cinematic exploration

๐ŸŽญ Branching dialogue and character relationships

๐Ÿงฉ Environmental investigation and interconnected puzzles

โœ‰๏ธ Seven letters containing pieces of a historical mystery

โฑ๏ธ Time-sensitive survival decisions

๐ŸŽฌ Cinematic cutscenes and character performances

๐Ÿฉธ Psychological horror and multiple endings

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ PROJECT PROGRESS

I've developed the game's original concept, story bible, six-chapter narrative screenplay, character and creature concept designs, visual identity, storyboards, and gameplay-system concepts.

The project is currently in preproduction. The artwork represents the intended visual direction rather than screenshots of a completed playable game.

Our first goal is a polished 15โ€“20-minute playable prototype demonstrating first-person interaction, dialogue choices, companion relationships, inventory, investigation mechanics, and atmospheric storytelling.

๐Ÿ”Ž LOOKING FOR COLLABORATORS

- ๐Ÿ’ป Unreal Engine 5 Developers: Blueprints, C++, exploration, interactions, dialogue and gameplay systems.

- ๐ŸŽจ Character Artists: 2D concept art, stylized 3D characters, textures, expressive character designs.

- ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Voice Actors: Natural, emotionally grounded performances, dramatic dialogue and psychological horror.

- โœ๏ธ Screenwriters / Cutscene Writers: Cinematic scripts, character dialogue, suspense and interactive narrative.

- ๐ŸŽฌ Cinematic Artists / Animators: Character animation, facial performances, Unreal Engine Sequencer and cutscenes.

- ๐ŸŒฒ Environment Artists: Forest environments, interiors, lighting, props and level composition.

- ๐ŸŽง Sound Designers / Composers: Environmental audio, suspense, ambience and original music.

- ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ UI/UX Collaborators: Readable interactions, investigation notebooks, inventory systems and accessible timed decisions.

๐Ÿค CREATIVE COLLABORATION

I'll lead the overall creative vision, narrative direction, visual consistency and project coordination.

However, I genuinely want to collaborate with artists, developers and writers who have their own creative perspectives.

For example, character artists are welcome to explore alternative interpretations of the established designs while preserving the characters' recognizable identities.

๐Ÿ’— COLLABORATION TERMS

I'm currently exploring a remote, portfolio-focused collaboration model.

The proposed arrangement is unpaid, not a paid job offer. Before production begins, any arrangement must be confirmed as legally appropriate, with responsibilities, compensation obligations, credits, intellectual-property rights and portfolio permissions agreed upon in writing.

Please contact me with your preferred role, portfolio or previous work, experience level, time zone and approximate availability.

I'll love to arrange a short 20โ€“25-minute remote introductory interview through Discord or Google Meet.

Thank you for your interest!

Hi I'm interested in the voice acting for your game! You can review my website and let me know if my voice might fit any of the characters you have.
My VO site: ashleycheynelle.com

Hi Ashley!

Thank you again for reaching out and sharing your voice-over portfolio!

I had the opportunity to look through your website, and I was particularly interested in your video game and audio drama work, including the projects you featured.

I'm currently looking for voice actors who can deliver natural, emotionally expressive performances for THE WAY YOU KNOW ME, a first-person psychological survival-horror game set in 1987.

I think your portfolio makes you a potential candidate for one of the female characters, particularly Kit Langley, although I'd love to learn more about your range before discussing casting decisions.

I also want to be transparent that the game is currently in preproduction and is being organized as an unpaid, portfolio-focused collaboration. I understand if that doesn't align with your current availability or professional rates.

If you're still interested, I'd love to arrange a short 20โ€“25-minute remote introductory interview through Discord or Google Meet to discuss your experience, the project, and possible character roles.

Thank you again for your interest! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there Danie2134! The story sounds captivating. I would be interested in supporting your project as a "Sound Designer". Based on your description, I can already a variety of musical themes that could complement the storyline. I am curious if the games Layers of Fear and Amnesia serve as inspiration? I loved their approach to musical narration.

Herewith recent work that most closely captures my approach to thematic soundtrack composition: https://soundcloud.com/the-0-wave/sets/soundtrack-sessions-vol-i

In addition, some earlier work that is unfinished yet helps further demonstrate my approach.

I like to combine real instruments (e.g., orchestral libraries + electric/bass guitar + drum libraries) as well as any electronic selections (e.g., synthesizers, sound libraries, sample design, etc.).

Let me know your thoughts and if you have any questions.

Hi The_Wave_1!

Thank you so much for reaching out and expressing interest in contributing to THE WAY YOU KNOW ME!

I appreciate you sharing your SoundCloud playlist and additional work. I'm particularly interested in your approach to combining orchestral instruments, electronic elements, and thematic soundtrack composition.

Regarding your question about Layers of Fear and Amnesia, I appreciate how those games use atmospheric audio, environmental sounds, and carefully timed musical cues to build tension.

For THE WAY YOU KNOW ME, I'm aiming for a distinct, grounded psychological survival-horror experience set in 1987. The game takes place in an isolated woodland environment, and I want the audio to play a major role in developing suspense, uncertainty, and fear.

My vision emphasizes realistic environmental ambience, unsettling silence, subtle musical themes, and intense sound design during particularly dangerous encounters.

One important aspect of the game involves a creature capable of imitating familiar human voices, so believable vocal effects, spatial audio, and environmental sound cues will be particularly important.

I'd love to learn more about your experience with both music composition and sound-effects design, including whether you've worked with interactive game audio or Unreal Engine 5.

I also want to be transparent that the game is currently in preproduction and the proposed collaboration is unpaid and portfolio-focused, with contributor credits planned. I'd be happy to discuss the scope and expectations so we can determine whether it's a good fit for both of us.

If you're interested, I'd love to arrange a short 20โ€“25-minute remote introductory interview through Discord or Google Meet to discuss your work, the project's creative direction, and potential collaboration.

Thank you again for your interest! I look forward to hearing from you!

A 1987 logging-valley horror with a mimic creature is such a creepy setup. If you want more sound designers, composers or voice actors to look through, I made a free site where you can browse them and hear their work: https://composerscout.com

Hi Maevyra Studios!

Thank you so much for your kind words about THE WAY YOU KNOW ME! I'm glad the setting and creature concept caught your attention!

I also appreciate you sharing ComposerScout. I took a look at the website, and it seems like a potentially useful resource for discovering composers, sound designers, and voice actors.

Since this is my first independent game development project, I'm currently learning how to build and coordinate a creative team. The game is still in preproduction, and I'm planning to release it for free on itch.io.

I'm particularly interested in atmospheric horror music, realistic environmental sound design, and voice performances that enhance the game's tension and psychological horror.

I'll definitely keep ComposerScout in mind as I continue exploring potential collaborators.

Thank you again for reaching out and supporting the project!
