I do agree that a simple reskin defeats the purpose of a jam, but I do not agree with your assessment. Reuse of some basic mechanic is not the same thing as reskin. If that were true, any falling block game would be a “reskin” of Tetris, and any side-scrolling platformer – a “reskin” of Super Mario Bros.
