Lantern Oil Descent: is the "spend light or save it" choice readable in the first minute?

https://pebblewick.itch.io/lantern-oil-descent (free, browser, about 5 minutes)

Lantern Oil Descent is a small dungeon prototype where lamp oil is your only currency: you spend it on flares and braziers to see and stay safe, or save it to get back to camp with what you found. The lamp lights mostly forward, so your back is exposed, and monsters always wind up with a red glow before they strike.

What I would really like feedback on:

  • In your first minute, did you understand that oil is both your light and your money? Which cue told you, or what was missing?
  • Did the moment you chose to spend or to turn back feel like a real decision?
  • Did the controls (keyboard, mouse, trackpad or touch) feel responsive and natural?

There is very little text on purpose; if that left you lost, that is exactly the kind of answer I want. It is an early prototype made by a small studio using AI agents under human direction; anonymous play stats help shape it. Thank you for any honest notes.

page says your light shrinks as you walk so i'm guessing thats the main cue? if the oil count sits right next to wich ever button spends it, i think people would connect light and money way faster in that first minute
