Hi Faelern. I'm really sorry. You spent hours building that family, then spent more of your evening trying to get it back. Starting again wouldn't give you those same characters or the time you lost, and I understand why an apology on its own isn't enough.

I reproduced what you described. You were right: clicking Load could overwrite another slot without you ever pressing Save or Overwrite. That was my game's fault. You didn't cause it by clicking the wrong thing, and you shouldn't have had to spend your evening figuring out what was happening.

I've now uploaded the fix. Loading no longer writes to your save slots, autosaves are stored separately, and I've fixed the missing event state that affected saves before ending a turn. I've tested switching between different saves and added backup history and file export/import.

I wish I could also tell you that your family is safely recoverable, but I can't promise that. The old version had no backup history or server copy. There may still be a copy among the remaining browser saves, but if those have all been overwritten, I can't reconstruct that exact family. The new backups can't undo a loss that already happened.

Please don't clear the game's browser data. If you're willing, use Load Game → Export Backup in the updated version to keep a copy of everything that's still there. I'd like to help check that data for your missing dynasty before telling you it's gone. You shouldn't have to spend another evening trying random loads to find out.

hi! thanks for getting on that so swiftly. let me playtest and then ill update here. by the way, I first assumed you had set up an AI bot to handle replies because of the way you repeated what I had said and did a lot of rephrasing. and like just the way im used to AI doing. if you are using an AI to reply to people, I advise stopping. AI has a very specific sound that feels like ... inorganic isnt the right word but it reminds me of when family members who are teachers cant remember to turn off teacher mode when they arent in school anymore. or like when people started pretending it was anything other than stupid to talk like a therapist during normal conversation instead of just talking like themselves. anyhow, that's all I wanted to advise on that matter. AI does a weird thing of like repeating negatives in the equivalent that teachers will activley nod to "show they're following along" but it feels very performed and like there's more time being spent on repeating words than just saying what's the key message of the words: fixed it, was able to set up an export, sorry about all that, cant promise file can be found but maybe give it a shot ... but you know ... however it is you actually talk. okay. gonna go playtest now. ill update some other time. Thanks for the updates.

Update 2.1:  So it seems like the loading works fine. the recovery backup list is a good idea. Thank you for adding those. But there is now something else happening because of the save and load system: could you make it that saving or loading doesnt kick you out of the fullscreen? I found it odd that was happening since I dont recall it ever happening before. So, theres now something there that was affected. Could you give that a look and make sure there's not a glitch that went unnoticed? It's admittedly a little unpleasant to keep going back to fullscreen when troubleshooting stuff but truly the bigger concern is even a tiny thing missed can richochet in very hard to notice ways years later and I'd hate for that to go unnoticed just because I don't want to give you more work to do. The work of a dev is ongoing as they say. Although, if you're looking for a QA Tester I'm available.

Update 2.2: But I also did notice something new that might need a double check. The income is always +# but even when I don't spend any money on anything the money keep going down. And not even consistently by the amount of the income. But around that amount. Further, I really just can't see anything that could be causing it. For example, my income says +19 but after I click end turn - and dont do an event that includes money like the ball or tournament or dealing with the taxe or handling land boundaries - and before clicking end turn my gold was 27 then after end turn, again the income as at +19, my gold became just 3 gold left. Which is what I mean by it seems like it might be removing a certain amount based on around the amount the income is. Could you take a look and check the recent changes didnt damage how the game reads the income versus losses system or calculations? If those didnt cause it theres still something thats causing it. I had to reload an older save like five times because whatever was happenening apparently started like over a dozen turns ago and I just couldnt tell what was causing it. Also, is it that ALL events cost money? If thats not whas happening maybe just double check that theres not a glitch thats causing that. I dont know if thats what causing the money drop but I figured better safe than sorry. Its just the only thing I can think of if nothing else comes from directly checking how the settings for the income and save/load are interacting with each other.

Update 2.3: this is a minor thing that's unrelated to the other things so feel free to handle this when you want: the game is considering all members in the family as adult age or of equal standing. one event was that a member was being flirted with by a commoner and it was the normal forbid or allow or ask dowry one but the family member was a 0 year old indaughter  and I allowed it just to see if anything would happen and it did - it gave the 0 year a spouse. it did give her a husband but I was curious if it would set it as a bethrotal to another infant and that was not what happened even though that might have made sense as just a parents setting the engagement young tradition but the event wording was never tweaked to differientiate someone wanting to marry a commoner and two families setting up an arranged marriage. Another thing it does sometimes is it will treat two family members like theyre fighting but like ... its a son and father or a granddaughter or something? I wouldnt think an 8 year old would be training with a sword with a 30 year old but alas the injury event does allow that. also I dont quite know if the "side with" so and so does anything but its a bit odd to never be sure if for those events if the person you have selected currently when you make your choice affects an invisible loyalty setting or relationship closeness. And its a bit odd when the event is about the person you have selected. Truly no big deal and doesnt matter but the marriage one to commoner needs to be fixed to be two families setting up an arranged marriage bethrotal for members younger than the marriage age of 16
