Ayy, wand w/ mana regen build is the way to go! The core gameplay loop is very fun. This might just be my personal preference, but I'm not the biggest fan of inventory management in games as I feel it disrupts the more rewarding aspects of games. One remedy I can think of would be for dropped items to display stats already so the player can decide whether or not to pick something up without having to open the inventory menu. Or another option could be to give the player more inventory space, potentially even a way to upgrade it as they progress through the game. Overall, I enjoyed the combat, enchanting system, the retro aesthetic, and matching SFX!

This felt great to play! action packed! the items and inventory were really fun for me!
The use of lighting in this is really cool the only addition to lighting I would think of doing would be to give the skele's projectile a small bit of light which would really pop that projectile so it's easier to notice, I found myself timing the skele's too so if they could fire at random intervals (sorry if they already do!!) it would make them feel quite a bit more lively.
The corn and grass both look phenomenal. I found myself just pointing the light at the corn at times and watching it swap it really looks awesome. Just beautiful shader usage on that which made the scene feel a lot more active. Really loved the health and mana orbs being coffee.
Overall just a really chill hack and slash and a phenomenal game considering it was a one person job, I love the lofi music and the birds chirping in the background i've still got it playing while I write my comment.
The dash going in your last direction you moved is really good design and feels fun to just mash the dash while looking for changes in the maze. Great use of the limitation and you're spot on with the theme and great job staying within the palette some great use a colour.
The UI also looks really clean and the loot system was cool as a big fan of diablo and path of exile games. Like I said this is a really amazing submission for a solo dev i've dropped you a follow to see what else you've cooked up on your itch.
Thanks so much!
I agree that the skeleton's fireballs should've had a light effect. I'd wanted to do more with the lighting, but Godot's 2D engine has an odd 16 light limitation that I just learned about while working on this project, so I avoided adding lights to any projectiles to be safe. I probably could've added it and been fine though, in hindsight.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Figuring out how to use custom resources to set up my own loot system similar to Diablo & PoE was one of my big motivations behind this project, so I'm very happy you noticed it! I appreciate the follow too, though I'll warn you in advance that I'm still very new to gamedev, and this was definitely an improvement over my last 2 games which were each pretty minimal as far as gameplay goes.
Nice! I thought the game was fun; I made it to the end! The item system was cool, and I enjoyed returning to the spawn to put my new items on. Also, the song that played in the maze is catchy; I had it on loop in the bg while writing this lol.
Feeback:
The skeleton projectiles were pretty hard to dodge so I found myself just dashing past them. I think hitting them should reset the time until they are able to shoot a projectile at you so that if you are already hitting them you won't have to avoid a projectile at the same time.
Changing some things around the maze, like adding objects such as scarecrows, for example, could help them remember the path they took when going back in.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and powered through to the end despite the skeletons.
The skeletons could definitely use more fine-tuning, I agree. This was my first time using state machines to control enemy actions, and I definitely need to do more experimenting with them.
Gahh! You're absolutely right about needing more scenery. And you reminded me that I made breakable pumpkins (with a breaking animation I was really proud of) on day like, 4, of the jam, and I totally forgot to put any into my final level. *facepalm*
