I was super confused at first, but I started to enjoy myself when I started catching the leaves. Super creative game and it's cool that this is an ascii game too! :)

Very interesting and unique! I've never played a game like this before so i was a bit confused initially but i managed to collect an ash xD

An ascii game is insanely cool. I found it a bit confusing, I felt like I was running around going after leaves without having much strategy or managing to catch that much. But I did collect some :)

Really interesting visually, but I found it rather difficult to collect leaves, they would either fly off screen or be too far for me to reach in time

Sorry, I didn’t quite understand the game at first. I got the Green Ash, but I wasn’t sure how or why I got it. I think the puzzle concept is quite clever, though! :D

That’s okay, thanks for the feedback! It sounds like you managed to catch something without intending to, which is pretty lucky. I didn’t even think about making clearer in-game feedback, so that’s definitely something I should work on…

Really interesting game! I'm really curious how what you used to develop it, it's so rare to see ascii games anymore.

It is a bit frustrating when you're chasing a leaf around and it either goes off-screen or gets stuck in a rock before it's low enough for you to catch it. I wasn't sure if that was an intended mechanic or not, but figured I'd mention it. I think it'd be really cool to build a narrative into this style of gameplay, could make for a really unique experience!

This is where I ended up after a bit of playing. I really loved the graphics!

Thank you for the feedback! I used my own custom engine for this, which is why pretty much all of my games use the same art style hahaha.

As for leaves getting stuck in rocks…that should not be the case: I explicitly check that there isn’t a rock underneath before a leaf falls all the way to the ground, but it’s possible that there is still a bug somewhere, so thanks for pointing it out. Leaves ending up off-screen is intentional, but I should probably indicate more clearly where the edge of the screen is (with a fence or something), so the player can plan ahead better. I also need to playtest more to optimize things like starting height and falling rate, since I just picked the first numbers which came into my head.

Omg the artstyle makes me remember cataclysm dark days ahead lol it's so cool.

Developer

Thanks for the compliment and the recommendation, it’s been a while since I’ve played new game in this style!

The game was confusing, but once I got it, I started collecting leaves. It is cute, but also disorienting. I think it may be a little too esoteric to play, but its a nice thought.

Thank you for the feedback! ā€œA little too esoteric to playā€ is very fair, but honestly I kind of take it as a compliment.
