cuteee! huge fan of the judges, as someone who also makes fashion games, i rlly love the idea of using it for puzzles :D also a fun way to fit it into the ending i got! also as graphic design nerd i rlly like the font you went with lol!

Big trauma center fan here. If I had a nickel for a Chicaghoul game that had elements that reminded me of trauma center, I'd have 2 nickels... Really weird that it happened twice and all that. Anyway! Really cool game! I loved the puzzles and had fun doing the resistance questline. I appreciate how the alien ending had a really cool beat at the end too with the eye. Only thing that tripped me up was putting the arm back on but I figured it out eventually. Great stuff!

What an awesome idea and great presentation of it! Love the alien animal crossing voices, the Papers Please style resistance group, and the relative simplicity of the mechanics.

When the judges score you each round, I would say the text is too small and easy to notice, because I died like 3 times in the 2nd round before I realized I was being given 3 numbers as feedback. I thought there was no feedback—if the numbers appeared one at a time with an eye-catching animation or sound effect that’d be fixed right away.

I think the tooltips on the clothing items should appear instantly when you hover them — it was on my 2nd playthrough that I got them to show up and realized I just wasn’t waiting long enough.

after getting the pro-human ending I replayed to try to please the aliens, and I just couldn’t figure out how to please them—what would be more slimy than snail mucus, a squid or snake hat, and bubblegum pants? And I did satisfy their other off-menu request! So I wonder if that ending is working properly? Anyways this is a great idea and I liked it.

thank you so much for such a detailed review!! all valid feedback, i really appreciate it!

re: alien ending, that's strange!

my theory is (hint below):

after knifing the eye out, did you also sew it up? i totally did not make that clear so it's my bad design, but only after going through that step as well will the eye actually alter on the full human. this + 2 slimy things which you correctly identified would achieve the ending.

thank you again for playing!!

yeah I wasn’t sewing it up! I did notice the eye on the big sprite hadn’t changed but didn’t think of sewing it up (my first time doing alien eye surgery!)

great premise and stunning visuals, I am bad at the puzzles though but still had a great time trying diff outfits and getting killed

Very fun short puzzle game! It took me a while to realize that I could type in numbers for the X-ray machine code - but otherwise I found the gameplay rather intuitive and enjoyable.

The X-ray visual effect is impressive, all the art is very well done, and the writing is humorous. Overall, an excellent little game!

Great color Palette and art style!

LOVE the little alien judges, SO CUTE

This is amazing!!!!! Had a blast playing this in a call, had to call the video game hotline for help on the xray puzzle, but other than that it was super engaging, the lil alien dudes were really cute!!! Kawaii desu ~~

Amazing game! Such a great idea! I loved the body horror contrasting with the pop-y alien reality show.

Start screen x-ray thing is sick. I also liked getting executed

Cool concept! I had trouble getting a sense of how to please the alien judges, but maybe I simply wasn't paying close enough attention?

Which prompt were you stuck on? If it's the tech/cut up one, I have a hint in the other comments (seems like it tripped up a few people), thank you for playing!! (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Love the aesthetic and love how it ramps up in terms of how gruesome it is. I thought we were just having fun with clothes! Why can't I wear my octopus hat in peace??

Unfortunately... I got stuck at the "wear tech-y clothes and cut up clothes" stage. I tried a couple different outfits but can't figure out what constitutes as "cut up", and I guess the ipod shirt + CD pants don't count enough as tech-y? So my journey, sadly, ends there. I wish to see it through to the end someday!

Ty so much for playing!! Turns out you're not the only one confused about that one (my bad!!) It's actually sort of two prompts: tech clothes + regular clothes but cut up. If you have one of each you would pass. Sorry about that, I totally did not make that clear. Hope you get to experience the game all the way through and ty again for playing (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Great work with this, really good use of the theme, and I enjoy the core concept of reality TV alien horror driving the story, which flowed really well!

Similar to the other commenters so far, I did run into some friction with the UI being a bit unclear at times - especially the X-ray machine code not being very clear that I was supposed to enter a code there. I was confused for a while on how I was supposed to activate the machine.

Some of this friction I think worked pretty well though - it took me a second to realize I could examine my arm, for example, and that was a good payoff. There was one alien prompt that confused me a bit, the one where they ask for techy wear and torn up clothing. It was a little unclear that I couldn't just wear techy clothing and tear up some of it, but that I had to tear up non-tech clothing and wear that alongside tech clothing.

Overall, great job, I love this as a dark twist on dress-up games!

Thank you so much for playing and for your review!! I totally agree with your points here, I was worried some of the prompts/mechanics might get confusing and I can see now that they indeed were. I will try to polish this up post-jam. Ty again <33

This was awesome to play. For something made for a jam, it really has this sense of fullness to it. Initially I thought it would flow like a minigame, but was surprised to see that it progressed with a story and introduced new mechanics along the way.

The setting and story is awesome, I was immediately invested. The premise of being tortured in an alien fashion gameshow and then being contacted by some government Earth defense agency to save your skin had me really engaged. In such a short period of time, the drama and stakes felt high. The game is simplistic in its visuals but it felt like they really set the tone, along with the eerie but catchy music. The writing is also really great. The body horror was surprising but was also really good, and I really like how it contrasts with the quirkyness of the aliens. It feels sort of macabre.

The UI was quite finnicky, it was a bit frustrating to play at times. It took a lot of patience just to select things normally, like making sure I was clicking items correctly in order to drag them or use them, and sometimes it'd be hard to tell what tools I had equipped or if I was selecting them correctly. Trying to figure out how to use them took a while too. I was also confused as to how to get the X-Ray working, since I didn't realize there was a field to type in numbers. But at the very least I was able to play it all the way to the end. It was also really nice that the game gives you a checkpoint after each "level".  With some adjustments and polish to the UI I think this would be incredibly solid -and if y'all were to expand upon I could totally see this as an indie darling. Overall kind of reminded me of Papers Please. Great work!

Wow, thank you so much for playing and for such a detailed review!! (˃̣̣̥ᯅ˂̣̣̥)  That's totally fair about the UI, I sort of expected it might get confusing and tried providing more in-game verbal guidance to the player as I didn't have time to actually polish the mechanics. I hope to flesh this out after the jam tho, fingers crossed. ty!!
