I was doing so well with a max score game! (Maximize coin giving skills, at the expense of, well, everything. So lots of dodging required.) Next up: a no death game! That sad sound...
Did have a shotgun too. Ah, the bug probably has something to do with drawing the huge square.
Semi-related, I try to not carry the shotgun, because the 3x3 square is a bit distracting. But I was out of items, so I had to carry the shotgun. And I had to retreat, due to not having bullets either, hence me being all the way West.
So another way to ‘solve’ this bug would be to allow one to carry ‘nothing’; then I would have retreated empty handed.
