Concept: it's a bit strange setting for the theme given, feels like the fish idea came first and the necromancy stuff was just an afterthought.

Gameplay: it's simple and nothing new in design, but it works pretty well, found no bugs, ran smooth. The upgrade system was a nice addition also. The bossfight is pretty cool, I like the varied moveset of the boss. It felt like it should've given a bit more telegraph of its attacks though, I many times felt like I had didn't have any time to react.

Art: it's fish sprites and background is nice and the skeleton is amazing with really good animations. They don't really fit together well though, the skeleton feels like it's from another game. Also are the fish and the background from an asset pack? I don't see it declared anywhere but it's a very different artstyle from the boss so I assume it's premade. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Audio: music is good and fitting, sound effects are nice as well.

Overall it's a decent game though feels very random at times.

Was gonna add backstory to the necromancer that it came from another dimension, and i wanted to add some more moves and balance the necromancers attacks but just didnt have time

Developer(+1)

nice! glad you liked it and also i animated the necromancer

Developer

Yeah the fish one was pre made I don't think it's an asset pack because someone gave it so me

It's simple but fun and well-made! The necromancy theme is very loose haha, maybe you could have been a zombie fish trying to come back to life?? Thanks for jamming with us :D

Developer

I was planning so hard for the theme email that i neglected other themes so like i had to rush the necromancer

Fun little game to play and well made for 48 hours of jam time. :) The necromancer theme did feel a little like you already had the idea of doing a fishing game and stuck the idea of this on at the end - but that's okay!
I think if you worked on this more after the jam, you could really work the theme into it further and have a really unique "dark" take on a fishing mini game which is fun!

I like this little game. It’s essentially a 1:1 recreation of something I played as a child. Players enjoy character progression, and this game delivers that well. A great design exercise is taking an existing game and modifying it to improve it or make it more interesting. In your version, the expansions include three upgradeable skills and a final boss—whom you can even talk to! :)

That said, I do have a few reservations. I didn’t really feel a sense of progression regarding the skills, and as for the boss—it’s a shame that players can’t immediately retry the fight after losing. In game design, we need to apply heuristics! You should ask yourself questions like: "Won't forcing the player to start over after the boss fight just frustrate them?" "Will the player actually feel the 'necromancy' theme if 80% of the gameplay involves eating fish?" or "Does the player truly feel a sense of progress when they spend points on a skill?" It’s cool that the boss is there; I appreciate the humor.

Wanted to add wayy more stuff, if i had 1 more day I would probably add minions of the necromancer And a whole lot of stuff that I had in mind but time didn't allow me to do that

The concept is goofy and fun. I like the idea of a necromancer getting a fish to collect souls, resulting in a basically unrelated theme and genre. The ending was a fun twist that I definitely didn't see coming. It was a good choice to allow the player to collect 100 souls across multiple runs. In the ending, it felt like the hitboxes might be slightly off, but it was still very doable. Great work!

Cool game, i couldn't get past 60, kept getting boxed in by the bigger fish.

Developer

Luck matters alot, also thats why i made it so that you can get 100 souls in multiple runs instead of just 1 run

Nice game. I played a couple runs but didn't have the patience to reach 100 souls and fight the boss. I was a bit confused at first because it says to collect souls, and I didn't realize you have to eat the fish to collect the souls haha. But I enjoyed the graphics, even if they felt a bit too cheery for the theme. For following jams please try to upload a browser version because I really prefer to not download and run executables.

Developer

Next game will be in godot so it will be easier to upload in the web we'll just have to see in the next spring jam

It was fun! I feel as though the fish didn't fit the theme, and the necromancer was just thrown in to have something theme related there. I did enjoy the interaction and boss fight with the necromancer though!

Fun Little Experince! the biggest issue i ntoices is big fish at the very bottom that i kept htiting on accident the only other issue was there was that it there was i felt there should have been more to the game but i understand you only had 2 days, I reallly Like the art and sfx/music though the much sound is funny and also the controls were pretty good, last thing is i dont think it incorprated the theme and the holloween vibe enough but overall a solid game and goodwork!

Developer

aw thank you i mainly did the animation for the boss fight and backgrounds and thanks for your feedback!

It was fun! at the beginning a little confused about what fishes can eat. In upgrades some of the text is not inside of the button, and it could be good to be allow to play on web too

Developer

I didnt have time to fix the button thingy

Developer

yea dude i told you to fix it

Submitted

I think it doesn't fit the theme.

Developer
