And I didn't revert the rule "you can't join parts of the same material" which I meant to only be temporary. I appreciate you struggling through. For anyone who stumbles on this: you have to put a honed tool (a sharp rock will do, you can also hone a rock yourself using another rock) in the tool slot, make sure you are on mark: carve, mark several spots, and then hit commit to create wood shavings. If you fell asleep at that explanation or are still confused, I don't blame you.
