Both of the things I said I would change are live now (build 2199888, so a hard refresh if you still see the old one). They came straight out of this thread.
Boscoe: the start of the game now says outright that the opening is deduction and the last few guesses are counting, so nobody has to discover that mid-round. The end screen also tells you how many numbers were still possible before your winning guess, and how many of your guesses you spent with ten or fewer left. I did not add the distance band. Withness is the whole design and a band would change what the game is. But the game no longer pretends the tail is thinking, and if the fix reads like a bandage on a thin endgame rather than an honest label, say that and I will hear it.
Theodor: the probe is taught now instead of assumed. After your first finished round there is a worked example: range 38 to 48, guess 60, and it cuts because it is measured against your last guess. Outside the range a guess is a knife, not a guess.
Tested before pushing, through a cloud browser rather than a mouse: one deliberately bad round (1 straight up to 50) ends with "51 numbers were still possible, ten or more were open the whole way", which is the right confession. If either of you plays it again and the new copy is either wrong or smug, tell me which.
