1. Because it's a Mario fan-game. Since Super Mario is a franchise known from it's public being generally the toddler and children audience, almost anything Mario-related would attract the majority of it's child fan-base.
2. Regarding your cite questioning why grown-ups would play this, the creator of MvLO is literally 26. (i believe)
