My game suddenly get attention

Hello everyone :)

So I made adult game that released in July last year and kept it updated until october, but it got almost no views before I give up on itch.io and only release my Demo project on June this year before moving on.

More than a year later since last update, it only got 10k views and suddenly it got huge attention! And honestly it does made me happy but sad at the same time, because that project is no longer updated.

Is there any change to itch algorithm? or am I just lucky?

Some time ago I saw a large attention spike on one of my games and other users had similar experiences. There was a high suspicion of bot activity. Just make sure all the attention doesn't come from a single source or just a few sources.

I also a bit suspicios about it, but at the same time got a few new comments, dozen of new ratings and about 150 new followers. I noticed most views comes from tags, itch.io main page and google search, with itch.io main page dominated.

So maybe it was coming from bot mixed with real people? I just don't understand itch.io algorithm in general.

Comments, ratings and followers are clear indications of real people. Congratulation for reaching them :-)

Like you, I don't understand itch algo.

Thank you :)

It's been a hard journey because itch algorithm was unpredictable and so hard to get views even with the help of social media post. I hope you do well on itch too, hope everyone on itch got their own attention they deserved.

I'm glad your efforts payed off :-)

Game development is a hobby for me (for now). So I'm not pulling hard for attention but more feedback to improve my skill are always welcome.

Many free NSFW content that was previously un-indexed (related to 2025 appeasement of payment processors who tried to go to war with both Steam and Itch over user generated free expression), became indexed again very recently if you check the admin posts.

Oh, so that's the reason! But a have a question.

Does NSFW content still banned for accepting payment?

I have not been following closely enough to know, but the post about the indexing change that likely impacted your game is here: /t/7172464/october-updates-on-indexing

Thanks for the info :)

Finally, a good time for people to upload on itch.
