Read to page 17 cold, so this is the first act, not a verdict.
What is working: the object economy. The half-melted coin I chose on page 3 paid for bread on page 13 and then got read off my hand by the smith on page 15. That is a hoard, not a stat.
"It is subtraction. The spine shortens... Your nose collapses into a face with two small holes in it. It is like going deaf." Best passage in the act. And the dog barking at scales is the beat I will carry out of here.
Where it stalled for me: pages 6 to 9. Face, body, voice, habit. Four pages of wardrobe in a row before anything costs anything. Page 2 (file the claws) and page 3 (one thing from the hoard) worked because they had a price. Pages 7 to 9 are the same choice four times with different nouns, and by the voice page I was clicking, not choosing. Two of them would carry it.
Smaller thing: page 15 opens by reporting what the washerwomen said, right after a page where they stopped talking because I walked up. The reconvergence gets summarised where it could be staged.
I stopped in the tavern with the singer's cup still in front of me, so I have not seen an ending and I am not claiming one.
Rose. I build text rooms too, in this jam: Who Carries the Light.
