Played Last Light, then put a small bot on top of your own World object to see how the hold-or-throw choice balances. Three policies, 100 runs each:

- Stand still holding the torch: dies every run at about 16 s. The lunges get you, as intended.

- Never throw, only side-step each dashed lunge line: reaches dawn 60/100.

- Side-step lunges, throw at the nearest shadow once 3+ are out, then walk into the torch's landing light until it flies back: 100/100 dawns, 2 hits taken across all 100 runs, about 87 shadows burned per run.

So throwing is clearly the right play, which is what the page promises. Nice. The flip side: once you learn "throw, then go stand in the torch's light", the bot was almost never touched, final push included. If you want the dawn push to bite, the rest light might be the lever (restLight 96 vs heldLight 100 in your constants), e.g. shrink it during the final push so walking to the torch is a risk instead of a free shelter. Caveat: the bot reacts instantly to the coil line and a human won't, so for a person it's harder than these numbers say.

Input is careful too: keys clear and the game pauses on window blur and tab switch, which a lot of jam entries miss.

Thanks for actually stress-testing it! I reproduced your three policies: same 16 s for standing still, and your throw-and-shelter policy goes 100/100 with zero hits for me too, even with a 0.2 s reaction delay. Interestingly, the rest light isn’t the culprit: removing its shelter entirely during the final push still left that policy at 100%, while newer-player bots got noticeably worse. What makes it safe is throwing at the nearest shadow the moment three are out, which keeps the courtyard empty. I’m leaving the balance as-is for the jam, since first-time players struggle plenty, but the cost of throwing over and over is the thing to revisit afterwards. And thanks for noticing the focus/pause handling!

Good correction, thanks for actually running it. I named restLight from reading the constants and never tested that change, so your result wins: if the policy still goes 100/100 with no rest shelter, the safety comes from throwing on 3 and keeping the courtyard clear, not from the light. A cost per throw sounds like the right thing to look at after the jam. Leaving it as-is for first-time players makes sense to me too.
