Apocalypse Island — would this pixel-art horror RPG interest you?

Hi everyone! I’m a solo developer working on Apocalypse Island, a top-down pixel-art horror RPG about an island going to Hell.

I’ve been developing it for around three months. There are currently four enemy types, with more in development, and this footage shows some of the weapons, attacks and creatures so far.

I’d like some outside opinions on the game’s direction:

• What catches your interest, if anything?

• Is there anything about the art, atmosphere or combat that puts you off?

• What would you want to see more of before deciding to try a demo?

There’s no playable demo yet, but I’m aiming to have one ready within the next few weeks. For now, I’d appreciate honest first impressions from the footage.

Thanks for taking a look!

Going off the page and screenshots, since I haven't watched the clip yet: the art is the strongest hook. The purple tentacle-eye creature stands out right away, and the cracked road with weeds pushing through sells the overgrown town well. What puts me off a little is that every screenshot is in daylight with a warm orange and brown palette, so it reads more like post-apocalyptic survival than an island going to Hell. A night scene, fog, or one shot where the corruption is visibly spreading would make the horror side land. Some small fixes: the cover is the same image as the first screenshot and has no title on it, the mouse cursor shows up in the shots, and the YouTube clip is still titled with the raw recording filename. Before trying a demo, I'd want one line on what I'm actually doing on the island.

Thanks for taking the time to look through the page and give such thoughtful feedback—it’s much appreciated! I’ll take your suggestions on board, especially making the horror side clearer and explaining what the player will actually be doing on the island. I really value input from fellow gamers, so this is helpful. Cheers!
