Thanks Jeremy! I’m really grateful for the feedback and the time you’ve taken to explain your suggestions. I really value fellow gamers and developers opinions, especially while I’m developing Apocalypse Island.
Keeping a clear silhouette for each perk and showing the tiers separately makes a lot of sense. I’ll test the icons at their actual in-game size and see how easily I can tell them apart (easy to get caught up in the details when working zoomed in!) Thanks for the encouragement too 🙂
I'm developing the perk system for Apocalypse Island, my pixel-art horror RPG, and I've now completed 30 pieces of perk artwork. Here are some of the top-tier (Tier 3) designs.
Most perks will have three tiers, with upgrades covering health, stamina, weapons, movement and other abilities. The aim is to give players different ways to build their character as they level up.
This selection includes increased maximum health, damage reduction, health regeneration, heart and XP attraction, improved sprinting, and a chance to gain temporary invulnerability after a kill.
I'd be interested in feedback on how clearly the artwork communicates each perk's effect, especially at the small size it will appear in the perk tree. How do you balance readable perk icons with a strong visual theme?
Thanks for taking the time to look through the page and give such thoughtful feedback—it’s much appreciated! I’ll take your suggestions on board, especially making the horror side clearer and explaining what the player will actually be doing on the island. I really value input from fellow gamers, so this is helpful. Cheers!
Hi everyone! I’m a solo developer working on Apocalypse Island, a top-down pixel-art horror RPG about an island going to Hell.
I’ve been developing it for around three months. There are currently four enemy types, with more in development, and this footage shows some of the weapons, attacks and creatures so far.
I’d like some outside opinions on the game’s direction:
• What catches your interest, if anything?
• Is there anything about the art, atmosphere or combat that puts you off?
• What would you want to see more of before deciding to try a demo?
There’s no playable demo yet, but I’m aiming to have one ready within the next few weeks. For now, I’d appreciate honest first impressions from the footage.

Thanks for taking a look!
Here’s a look at some of the gameplay we’ve developed for Apocalypse Island over the past three months!
We currently have four enemy types, with many more in development. This footage shows a few of our weapons and their attacks, alongside some of the enemies and their abilities.
Everything is still a work in progress, but we wanted to share how combat is coming together. Let us know what you think!

Hi everyone! I’d like to introduce Apocalypse Island, my game currently in development, and start sharing some of the work that’s gone into it.
Development is already underway, with parts of the game built and artwork taking shape. This devlog will be a place to show what I’ve developed so far and share new progress along the way.
For this first post, here’s a look at the title screen—a first glimpse of Apocalypse Island’s visual style and atmosphere.
I’ll be updating this thread with more artwork, screenshots, and looks at the game as development continues. I’d love to hear your first impressions!
